while you keep saying you don't need or want the simpler solutions, you seem to be suggesting that what you think should be good for everyone else? like no one is different from you, or their needs are different from yours? can you not acknowledge the scenarios i've been mentioning? that people are wildly different in how they live their lives, regionally or otherwise, and therefore come to wildly different requirements and asks of their gear?

there is a simple is best group of people, we like things mechanical and minimalist and streamlined as possible, no extra fat, you seem to be at the opposite end of this spectrum...all tech, all easy, all the time...that's fine, don't be forcing your idea of how it should be done on everyone else...
You and others are hating on the Key Fob on an amazing vehicle. One might think that's because there's so little else to complain about but we know better. This forum is filled with whining and complaining about nitpicky things.

You want "simpler solutions" - do you want vehicles without computers and black boxes tracking your every move behind the wheel? I don't see you or others posting about that.

You believe that what I "think should be good for everyone else." Couldn't be further from the truth. I know there's room for improvement but I don't need to whine about what JEEP/FCA got wrong and ask why the key fob is so big or why there's no indicator light for when the tailgate is down on a FIRST MODEL year vehicle.

You want improvements? Stick around. This industry has a long history of improving their products (have you compared early model JEEPS to the current JL/JT?) driven by their designers' and engineers' abilities as well as the market and competition.

You think I'm "forcing my idea of how it should be done on everyone else." You couldn't be further from the truth. There are hundreds (thousands?) of other threads in this forum. Go find one or go create one that meets your needs. I'm here to enjoy my Gladiator, mod it, wheel it, learn from others about things I don't know, share some ideas (and humor) while trying to tune out all the whiners who had no clue what they were buying when they spent $30,000 to $50,000 for an amazing JEEP truck that can go most anywhere and do things few other vehicles can do.

OK, I are an ingineer, so maybe that's why I don't object to the fob.
I'm a retired engineer, and the biggest complaint I have about the fob is that every time I take it out of my pocket to unlock, or lock, the doors the buttons are always facing away from me...

This what humans do, we often come up with the best solution first.
Almost never. We come up with something that works based our limited knowledge, experience, materials, and technology. Decades later we refine it and make it so much better, and we have to fight with people who are in love with the old way that's inferior. Sounds like you really want a Model T, you should get one. I'm sure they are far more reliable than today's vehicles. So little to go wrong with them.

These keys are the same age, guess which two are worn and need replacement? The middle one only works if inserted a certain way.

so once again, while you keep saying you don't need or want the simpler solutions, you seem to be suggesting that what you think should be good for everyone else?
I want the simpler solutions, like just having my phone unlock things for me because I'm close by. I want everything simpler and streamlined, and I want fewer things in my pockets. I've gone out of my way to have minimalist pocket contents by making the phone do most everything.

I'm not saying what's good for everyone else, I'm saying what manufacturers ARE and will keep doing. I was in the conference call with the Gladiator team early this year, and I was on a two hour focus group on new vehicle tech a month ago. Everything is going this way. Old mechanical stuff that is always problematic is simply gone forever.

LOL, hers how an engineer would solve that problem

1. Tie fob to cats back, buttons up.
2. Pull cat from pocket.
3. Throw cat in air.
4. Wait for cat to land(feet first of course)
5. Lean over, pick up cat, hit button.

easy

Yes, but would you know whether the cat in your pocket is alive or dead before getting it out?

Hey, come on... we not saying the soup isn't good. Just that there is a fly in it. And we are looking for a hack to fix it.

I posted some time back about removing the switchblade key and putting it on my keychain. The stub of the switchblade still popped out so I drilled and tapped the housing and secured it with a set screw, as you can see in the photo. I really removed the key because I wanted to be able to lock my concole or glove box and NOT have to hand the key over to a valet or service department. The small key ring stays in the console unless I lock it.

squeaky wheel gets the grease bitches ;)

i'm really not talking to you all, i'm talking to Jeep and the aftermarket, and these customer care people that avoid these threads like the plague, and the engineers who may lurk, but by being a little brash and comical about it...it really engages you all to help me, and Jeep, fix one of the most annoying things about this amazing vehicle, and yes it's fantastic that's one of my largest complaints, but even though it's a relatively small physical thing...it's daily annoyance is all day long, multiple times a day, every time i have to touch it, in and out of my truck, lock/unlock, shift at my desk at work, feel it while i'm driving, nothing pleasing about it and for no reason, our technology is well beyond the need for that size, thickness, weight to do the 3 tiny things it does

so keep on squeaking my little minions, i will crack the whip and stimulate your engines to drive this ship forward to resolutions, aftermarket or otherwise

it's sort of like having the vehicle of your dreams but unable to choose the color you like, like being forced to have a hot pink barbie edition, that sort of annoyance, all day long, the only time my fob isn't annoying me is when at home and it's on the counter, usually overnight, otherwise when i leave the house it annoys me much like if my Jeep was hot pink would annoy me, bigger deal than you wish to make it out to be because this is a highly handled and personal item

Empty Pockets, i left the ring on my key and ground it flat, as i found it much easier to turn the locks having some meat on it, but otherwise mine is separate like yours, and on a spring snap clip and an AJT fob (a half solution, and all that's currently available), and still looking for a complete solution. Nice to leave fob only with service department and lock up the glove box, console and back seats...another brain fart of Jeep by making the switchblade key internal to the brick...doh.

you know those cheap lanyards for keys that game day passes may come on, or handed out at sporting events? they often have those cheap pre-bent spring steel clips, they are minimalist, come in many sizes, so you get your little ring of keys on the small end and snap the bigger end to the opening on the fob, slicker than whale poop on an iceberg, should be able to find them in key sections at hardware stores also? i have a drawer i always collect that stuff for the next key chain i may need to mod or set up etc.

if i were Jeep, i'd want the person(s) responsible for this fobs head, i'd want to have them fired, seriously, and then post the details with an apology to this forum, it's that big an oversight for a first jeep truck launch in 27 years...awful miss :)

too much to ask?
