I've got a sport with the max tow package, I work with it, about 28500 miles, just under a year. I was due for an oil change before a 20 hour drive time trip up north, when I get back I had the doors off and was driving with the music up, when I got off the highway I noticed I was close to redlining! Pulled over and turned it off, no coolant cap, no coolant. Anyone expect what I do that during service the cap wasn't placed on correctly? Also why doesn't jeep offer the max tow anymore ? The dealership is looking at it now, so we shall see.

Lets hope that it was just a loose cap and not something serious.

Was this after the 20 hour drive or just before it? If just before it maybe the service tech forgot to put the coolant in and the cap was left off. If after the 20 hour drive I would find it hard to believe you would make it through with just air cooling... though I did have a Camaro with a coolant leak at one point that in traffic would overheat but in driving it would be fine. So perhaps not impossible if you were always moving at highway speeds?

It was just after the trip, my mechanic friend and the service manager at jeep tell me it could not have been off before I left, highway speed in 5 hour chunks 4x. My friend suggested cross threaded, came off over time. I can't see how it came off as i hadn't touched it, so either the unlikely act of Sabotage, or error when having the service performed.
