He ordered a Ram 1500, 5% under invoice. It's now on the lot. We live in Mass and want to drive down there. They did a virtual appraisal and it's 3k less than what KBB and carvana are offering, which the dealership said they used to price the vehicle. He brought that up and he just said to him "oh okay so you're not trading it I guess". What the hell is that?

He also asked about getting it this month because of the incentives on the ram site and they said that sometimes they can't qualify depending on the deal they gave... Which is the exact opposite of what they said when he ordered

I hear so many good things about this dealer, why is this looking so shady?

may have just been the one person your dealing with. When my wife and I recently were looking for her JL we had her Grand Cherokee appraised at several places. Almost every time we told them how much carmax offered us they got a bit of an attitude. I even talked to the owner of one dealer, offering to sell to them if they just met the same offer as carmax...and he flat out said they cant match that price and make money.

So you are getting 5% under invoice and expecting them to add the ram incentives on top ? If he has that in writing then just speak to Tom about it. As for trades, some dealerships will use trades to make some money back, I presume this is the case but why not just take carvana or vrooms offer if it's better ? No harm in that other than tax savings. I purchased from Chapman for the first time on my 22 and had a great experience.

Do you happen to know the name of the Chapman salesman that posts on the forum? I wanted to ask him what's up.

My friend just replied to the salesman saying "I would like to get this squared away before we move further. When i ordered my vehicle my friend did at the same time and Ashlie said that you use multiple tools for appraisals. Also I'm putting 4k down.".

And the reply was "okay, how many months do you want to finance"

Totally dodged what he said! He even showed the screenshot of Ashlie saying this

You still qualify for incentives with this deal... I have in writing they use different tools...

What's Tom's info and I will

When you get 5% under invoice don't expect to get top dollar for a trade. Chapman typically uses MMR (Manheim Market Report) for appraisals. I would recommend getting hold of Tom Borah or Steve Wyprek.

Whenever you’re buying a vehicle, you have to go into it with the willingness to walk away if the deal is going sour. Some people can’t seem to do that because they think about all the time and effort they’ve already invested - and that’s fine too. If they want the vehicle that bad. The ones that get me are the ones that whine afterward.

That’s ultimately the main take away: how bad do you want it? Some people bitch and whine endlessly after buying a car that the dealer changed the deal midstream and it wasn’t what they had agreed to, yada, yada, but they still went ahead, signed the papers, and bought the car.

That begs the question: If it was such a bad deal why did you go home with it? The answer is always, that they were so far into it, or they had “traveled all that way”, you get what I’m saying. There’s a million variations.

I bought my truck from a dealer over eight hours away in a neighboring state. During the negotiations over the phone I made it plain that I was dead serious about the purchase but if anything was different from what we had arranged when I got there, I was going to turn around and go home. We worked out everything including my trade in through phone text and email. It turned out to be as smooth a car purchase as when I bought my Turdra the same way from a dealer in Michigan while I still lived in Maine.

I really like buying my cars this way now. I think it cuts down on the bullshit. Just have to be willing to walk away if it’s not what you worked out.
