Got my HQ15 yesterday. Found out the 2021 dry weight is 1000#’s heavier than earlier models due t adding 2 additional batteries(4 now) and other included updates. Then I transferred what I had in my Lance 1172 truck camper, and boy do we need to go on a major diet! Gladiator was down shifting...
I also have a Rubicon with the Blue Ox baseplate installed. There is no issues off road. It does make it challenging to install a winch if desired, but not impossible.
I recently found out the same thing. Although I’ve never been a big fan of rotating tires, since I come from mostly running Dually’s or sports cars with different size front and rears, I thought that since the Jeep’s I now own would benefit from rotation. Found out the matching wheel cost $352...

1) Yes. Anything above 2000#’s, you need a weight distribution hitch!
2) Class 3 is sufficient. But check the weight chart for the heaviest load you plan to carry then add 10%.
3) Yes. You need a add on brake controller if your trailer has electric brakes. I am not aware of the hydraulic...
Sorry about your luck. The Hopkins kit is a much better way to go. I actually got mine directly from Hopkins before they said you can only buy from a dealer.
I went to an RVI dealer about 6 months ago who told me that he would just run a wire directly to the 7 pin connector if I were him. He said don’t waste your money. My Gladiator has been running just fine ever since.
It’s a Ocean Kayak Torque. Has a large trolling motor built in. It also has an option for a steadying sail (which I don’t own). Mine is six years old. Most kayak dealers can get one.
