OK a few more updates.
Installed the shelf over the fridge slide
Designed it to be fairly easy to remove for when I haul ALL the bikes
ROUGHLY installed drag chain and wires for the power from the battery banks to the drawer
ROUGHLY installed a 12v accessory outlet connected to that drag...
It's a South African Smart Cap (not one of the Texas ones which appear to potentially have some more issues... Thought that's NOT first hand experience and is probably not totally accurate...). I absolutely LOVE this cap, EXCEPT for the fact that it dips down towards the rear and limits the...
OK, a few more updates... I got the bike fork mounts installed. Been struggling a wee bit with this, but I think this will work for now. The issue is my youngest will be outgrowing his 24" mountain bike sooner rather than later (kids grow like weeds), so I was tempted to install the quick...
I will say my oldest's bike would NOT be able to slide in and out fully if I had the front of the bike at the back, it's about 2 inches too tall for the Smart Cap (since the stupid thing drops down so much). Most of this is due to the height added from the fork due to the mount for the...
Ok some more photos.
DONE:
Thus far I have about 80% of it done.
We have the 5 1x12 boards (glued and dowed, is that a phrase?)
A frame on the front and both sides ON TOP of the 1x12s made of 1x3s driven in with 3 inch deck screws to provide a bit more structure.
We then have a separate slide...
The one on the left is a 24" Coop kid's mountain bike and the one on the right is a size small 26er (pretty heavily updated with a modern-ish 1x10 microshift groupset...).
I did update it to fit my oldest's new full suspension small 27.5 and will be building the new one to handle the 27.5 and...
I ran it last year from Ohio to Olympic National Park with no issues... BUT not a lot of off roading that trip. It did hold up though since then as I left it all installed the whole year. (It's so darned handy having access to the back of the bed with a slide!)
Each summer we take 2-3 weeks and go explore as a family. Generally focusing on National Parks, but hitting up cool places as we go. Started before my wife and I were even dating when we planned a trip to Alaska together in 2004 (started dating during the planning of said trip). 2010 we did...
Driven Sarge about 2,000 miles so far pulling our 2012 LivinLite 10.0. EcoDiesel is wonderful pulling this light load. Averaging 21 to 22 mpg vs. My wife's 2013 JKUR getting around 14-15. Much more composed too between the extra wheelbase and torque!
Meh... had to drill out a few frame holes... the factory bumper was a bear to remove from the frame so my guess is the frame was slightly out of spec. Had to cut some off the winch plate to clear the sway-bar disconnect. And had to modify 2 of the holes to fit my (cheap) winch (again going...
Finally, got the girl's top off and covered her butt with a cheap Amazon tonneau cover (sub $180 if I recall...). Also put some miles on her down to Gatlinburg for a long weekend (averaged 26mpg). Have to say the diesel is much nicer on the highway in the hills than the 3.6.
Won't lie I was on the fence but wanted to save a bit of cash... but totally right they really are equal it just is cost and looks. I TOTALLY get going for them and man did my LJ look sharp for a 17 year old daily driver!
I've have Jeeps with both, my 01 TJ had black and they faded but I painted them with Krylon Fusion and that looked good and lasted a while. My 05 LJ had painted and they looked great... but got beat up with chips and nicks. Couldn't tell from 20 feet back but always bummed me out.
My current...
Here are some better shots...
Also got a custom cover for the winch from CoverandAll and I got to say I am VERY impressed. The have them custom made in India which is weird but they have you take measurements and then even send a picture of your winch in. Very nice fit.
Yeah and I could justify the essentially $2000 upcharge since it forces you to the LED light package. My dealer could have gotten an OEM one and I could have done the install but at the time they were back ordered...
