+1 what lift.
Solid axles front and rear means there isn't much adjustability, but an aftermarket lift could mean adjustable control arms or track bars.
Do a simple search here. Tons of lengthy threads with great feedback on the subject.
To give you my personal opinion, gas. I don't like the VM diesels, especially with all of the emissions complexity.
The engine is too heavy for this platform. It belongs in a Ram 1500.

OP needs to report back if his ECU was calibrated for the gears and tires.
Also needs to hand calc fuel economy.
Since we have the areodynamics of a brick wall, mph is the biggest hit to fuel economy.

I finally got around to installing the rear steps.
On another note, sadly my right rear axle seal is leaking like a ton of other people's. I just noticed it today.
I have the Clayton 2.5" Right Ride + kit with front control arms.
The rear arms are stock, and the amount of lift gained in the rear was about 3.75".

That is another reason why there are so many stripper model Gladiator Sports in rental fleets on tiny tires. Max out MPG average across the Gladiator and the Jeep brand.

I have the Mopar front lower control arms, JKS quick disconnects, and the Clayton F&R bump stops. I just need the rear arms, which I haven't noticed a need for.
Do you know the specs of the wheels?
17x8 with a ~40-45 offset should have a 12.5" sit nearly flush with the fender, maybe a tiny bit of poke.
