Just above 19 mpg with 12,000 miles on it. Running stock Falken mud tires and no lift. Tire Pressure around 33 cold. Mostly freeway around Denver at 75 or so. Drops to 14-15 over the Ike and loaded for a week.
74 CJ5. My first vehicle. Purchased from my uncle in 81` with 24,000 miles. I drove it for 6 years and put on just over 120,000 k on it. I fully wore that rig out as it had zero floor boards at the end of its life (feet rested on the mufflers...). The brakes were essentially non-existent...
22 pages of whining on the defroster. That is just hilarious. What I experienced today was trivial compared to the 6 years I endured with my CJ5. It was as if there was no defroster at all in that rig. I vividly remember an occasion in graduate school when I was chained up and wheeling in...
This was not a typical snow storm but more like an ice storm so this might be a bit more extreme in this situation. I did notice several other vehicles having the same problem. I can say with certainty that my JT system is orders of magnitude better than my old 74 CJ5 but also is worse than...
Same storm for me on the south end of Denver. My M/Ts slip a fair bit on the icy roads but I expected that. What I did not expect was how bad the defroster and wipers are. They sucked. Had to pull over and rescrape 5 times over the course of an hour.
I ordered the RLD some months ago with the initial delivery estimate of Oct 1. But was notified my all white shell did not ship and is now expected in Nov sometime. Missed out for this upcoming 2 week trip unfortunately.
My mods are pretty much done now. My gladiator is ready to go. It is essentially a stock Rubicon with my mods focus being on carrying my gear and recover (winch). I will be adding a shell (RLD) sometime later this year.
@bhbdvm and @Flying J I have no first hand experience with the Kodiak tents as I have been solidly entrenched in the Springbar tents, which I believe were first invented and produced by Jack Kirkham in Salt Lake City back in the 60's. I grew up as a kid with these tents and the one which I just...
No. that is a 30 year old Springbar tent made in Salt Lake City. Sadly, the main Zipper blew out on this trip due to a certain Golden Retarded deciding to just run right through the damn thing in the middle of the night. As I inspected it today I realized it has a number of holes now and I...
More photos. And yes, even with the Builtright rack the lights work well enough to cook dinner. I may want to relocate that 2 gal of gas next time though... Almost ran over this snake on the way in. He was pissed I forced him to move off the road...
Well, this is the thread about what we do "TO" our Gladiators, even if it was not intended. Went out into the White River area of Colorado to explore and see the leaves. Came to a hard challenge with several boulders that would have easily high centered me so decided to take the "easy" bypass...
Steffen, my Rubi is still stock suspension/tires all around. I did not measure how much it dropped outside of measuring at the front of the rock sliders (dropped 1/2"). Here are two more views.
Zeon 10 steel installed. More custom work in that the winch is too wide for the Gladiator's bumper flange mount. I had to grind off about a half inch from each to get it to fit.
Winch installed. Zeon 10. Steel cable for now. Would have gone synthetic but could not wait for backorder as I needed it installed now in preparations for a 2 week trip in 14 days. This was actually a pain in the ass to install. The Winch did not fit as the housing is too wide for the space...
I installed the SB XRC last night. Was also disappointed that the disco skid plate did not work with this bumper. I decided to take matters into my own hands and used my worm saw and a cut off wheel to cut the OEM skid in two and made it fit. I still need to add a couple of supports between...
I have used my rails a fair bit so far. Tied down stuff certainly. I have attached my temporary tool box to it as well as mounting my Hi Lift and Rotopax. Used the Builtright mounts to put my shovel under the box.
