Some of the Ram guys will post updates more frequently, especially once they get up into high miles. I'll update the front page as often as someone wants to provide an update.
I hate to burden owners by asking for 25,000-mile updates, so I thought 50,000-mile updates would be more tolerable. I can certainly add it if you want me to.
I love Lake Speed, but I was disappointed that he chose a click bait title, 'STOP Buying Diesel Fuel Additives'. He knows better. We knew 20+ years ago that running TC-W3 2-stroke oil wasn't recommended in Common Rail diesels, so he's not telling us anything new. It's good to revisit old...
I don't know. Personally, I trust Platinum over the Traveller Premium, but I don't have anything to back that up. I just know that people have run many tests with the Platinum and impressed when they pull the DEF injector. I will say that the pour spout on the Platinum is easier to thread and...
I can appreciate the guy taking samples to test for cleanliness, but that's not a very scientific method for testing it. You can't pull a small sample from one jug and believe that sample represents every jug.
The holes on a DEF injector get clogged due to DEF deposits (hardened urea...
That's correct. DEF will turn into a white crusty substance when the water within it evaporates. Here's a cut and paste from a study that tested additivated DEF:
“This study has shown that the use of dedicated additives in DEF was an effective solution to significantly reduce urea related...
How many miles on the Jeep? And yes, you need to have the code documented at the dealership. Permanent codes typically are stored. It would take the dealer's tool to erase the code. The dealer will most likely replace/repair whatever caused the code.
I don't think I've let DEF sit for more than 6 months in the box, but it can sit for 8+ months in the Jeep Gladiator. We've been averaging about 3,000 miles per year in the Jeep.
Between three diesel vehicles, we've been averaging 2.08 - 2.29 gallons per month for the last 5 years...
How do you know it crystalized? Did you pull the DEF injector to see if there was deposit buildup?
The Platinum does a much better job at reducing deposit buildup than non-additivated.
I'm not sure. This isn't the first time they've put Pennzoil Platinum on clearance. I bought 13 x 5-gallon jugs of Platinum Euro for $14.25 (which came out to $2.85 per quart) back in 2022. I bought enough oil for 5 years. Today, I'm still using the same stash from 2022.
