  1. Manual transmission delivery delay

Sounds like you cut it close. I tried to order a Gobi manual the last week of September and was told that Jeep was temporarily not taking orders for MT. Lucked out and found a Stingray MT equipped just like I wanted a little over 200 miles north of me. Snatched it up!
  2. Manual transmission delivery delay

The first manual that I test drove was an Overland. That was in September. Bought a Sport S 6 speed on 9/30. I,too, had to get used to the clutch let off. A little different from the 20+ manuals I’ve had before. But that didn’t take long. LOVING IT!
  3. Jeeps Parking Next To Jeeps

My son had a ā€˜73 with the 304 V8. OMG kind of torque. Too much really, but fun on the sand dunes!
  4. Jeeps Parking Next To Jeeps

Yep. Positive. #1 it is a post ā€˜75 CJ5. You can tell from the windshield frame that tapers to the top and has no protrusion of the windshield wiper motor. So it’s not a V6 unless someone did a very odd swap. #2, it has a V8 badge in the period correct location.
  5. Valet Security

Nope. The glove box, console and rear seat backs all lock with the switchblade key that is part of the key fob. So if you use a valet, drop the truck for service or loan it to someone you cannot secure your personal stuff. You can lock it all up with the key but then you gotta hand over the key...
  6. Jeeps Parking Next To Jeeps

Gotta LOVE a V8 powered CJ-5! Diggin those side mounted mufflers. That’s gotta keep the cab floor nice and toasty!
  7. Valet Security

I think Jeep was just thinking about securing things in an open jeep while you hike around a bit with the key, naturally, in your pocket. This solution works out pretty well. Glad you like it. Taking the truck in for service tomorrow. Console with be reasonably secured
  8. Interior lock box?

In regards to routing the USB wire.... I suppose you are running a phone connection for charging and for Apple Interface with the radio. I ran a 3/8ā€ drill bit into the console from just above the parking brake handle (between the rubber trim pieces) and fed my lightning wire out through there...
  9. Valet Security

Part 2 Later I thought of an even easier solution. I use the Gibson Leatherworks key fob holster. I normally have my gym stuff in the Jeep and I discovered that I could use the same lock that I use at the gym to secure the switchblade key in the Gibson holster like this: has anyone else...
  10. Valet Security

My wife and I met our daughter and son-in-law for dinner over the holidays. I was surprised to discover it was Valet parking only. Since I had a pistol in the console that I didn’t intend to take in with me I had to drop her off and park down the street a bit. Got me thinking on how utterly...
  11. Those who line-xed their beds

$475 in Lawrenceville GA (NE suburb of Atlanta). Dealer tried to sell me on the premium. Premium contains a UV inhibitor that keeps it shinny and new looking. I already had an Undercover tri-fold tonneau on hand to install so I passed. My Silverado has the same line-x and cover and looked new...
  12. Any reason to avoid Manual Transmission?

In other words.....With a manual you are in control and more engaged with your driving. Exactly why I have preferred the MT since 1974! I’ve got no criticism for those who like the automatic. But for me, my 2 ATs in my lifetime were 2 too many. FOR ME, that is. But not for all.
  13. Dealer installed TrailCam?

In my last truck, a ā€˜14 Silverado, I installed a backup camera purchased on Amazon. It was quick and easy to install and the screen was a replacement rearview mirror. It was well under $100. When researching it I saw a number of cameras that would send a signal to a iPhone or iPad. Also...
  14. Any reason to avoid Manual Transmission?

JT-wrx...... that was beautifully said. Makes me value my 6 speed even more. I took a 5 year hiatus from the manual myself in the form of a ā€˜14 Chevy Silverado. A very nice, basic truck that drove beautifully and did everything I asked from it. The V6 and 6 speed auto had all the power I needed...
  15. M/T Gladiator vs M/T Tacoma

Almost 5K miles on my Sport S and it gets better every day. The tranny did feel vague and imprecise at first and the transfer case took 2 men and 3 small boys to operate. But everything loosened up nicely with use. I pull down a dirt road about once a week and run the transfer case down to 4 low...
  16. Does anyone else accidentally wave when not driving your Jeep?

I’m from the South. We wave cause our mamas raised us that way. Having a Jeep just makes it better.
  17. Does anyone not regret ordering a hard top when they bought their Jeep?

It took about 45 minutes to install the first time. A bit of sub-assembly and learning. To remove the whole thing in-tact took about 15 minutes. I expect reinstalling will be no more than 20. It will likely never come off again. The real key to a successful instal, I believe, is making sure the...
  18. Does anyone not regret ordering a hard top when they bought their Jeep?

Also, I see folks stating that the soft top is quieter than the hard. I felt that one was about the same as the other on my test drive. But I can tell you for sure that the Sunrider for hardtop is quieter than the freedom panels. Maybe it is the lack of the center seam between the panels that...
  19. Does anyone not regret ordering a hard top when they bought their Jeep?

I’m in GA. Lots of sunny days, mild winter. I was very tempted to get the rag top simply because that was all I could find around here. My wife talked me into holding out and searching for a hard top. Drove almost to Nashville to pick it up. I know now that I would have regretted NOT getting a...
  20. reverse with the door open.

Wow, and yet another reason to get a manual tranny.
