Sure, it's aluminum, it's lighter and doesn't rust. It may dent easier and difficult if not impossible to straighten without replacement. But in the long run, it's fuckin Jeep, if it doesn't get banged up then you just bought it for show and tell.

My experience is drop in liners rub, scuff, scratch and wear down the paint to bare metal. They hold moisture underneath whether it leaks in or gets there as condensation.
Spray in liners are they way to go...

Well you said poor paint and rusting. was the structural engineering poor? was the product poor other than paint issues? Those I can live with to get something that works to my needs. But anyway I'll google the issues to see what's up.
Rust and paint? I'm not concerned as I'll get the aluminum one (no rust issues) and they way I use my trucks, spray bomb touch-ups are just a fact of life.
