To answer the question about if I measured what I took out. I did but didnt go by that, more just to make sure I was in that window of refill. The fill method negates putting in what you take out. My refill amounts are around 5.5 quarts as other people report though.
Also, what are we saying is...
Which is why ZF should clarify given that the transmission is mounted to a multitude of chassis. The trans pan mounting surface should be ground zero for level especially if the pump is that susceptible to premature wear from oil starvation.
So really there are two methods. The stellantis version mentioned above that has the wheels spinning and the ZF one that has you set the brake and go through the gears, holding them in gear for 10 seconds each.
Is this correct?
The transmission has a good amount of angle with the back pan mating surface being lower than the front and front meaning engine side. I had my back wheels resting on 10 inches of blocks and the pan was still not level. My thought process was to get it as level as possible jacking up the back...
If you wait a year or two, Jeep may put a turbo 4 cylinder in the gladiator that makes more hp/tq than the pentastar so you could trade your old jt in and upgrade to the turbo 4 alot cheaper than getting the v8 conversion, plus probably get 20-22 mpgs to boot.
That's correct, I did final check with back wheels up 10" and temp at 100. I would estimate between 4-6 ounces of fluid came out when I removed fill screw. From what I've read, and I believe per factory instructions, overfilling can result in fluid leak from vent.
Just to update on my "topoff" 2 days ago, I havnt experienced any issues yet. I was a little worried about overfilling to the point of oil being released from the vent, which I believe I read at some point can happen if you put too much in. Iam not sure where that vent comes out at but I have...
That jives with what Maximus said about filling at cooler temps will allow for more volume of oil.
Another theory I had was that perhaps the inlet that the filter neck fits into was machined slightly oversized and once it expands with heat, suction is weakened and less oil is picked up through...
I decided to try filling it with the back tires raised up 10 inches. At this height the pan is more level but not quite. Would probably take another 2 inches for the pan to be level. My theory being that at higher temps the pump is sucking air for some reason from 1st to second shift. I never...
Everyone seems to say to check/change trans fluid with the vehicle level but this is vague. To level the transmission you have to jack the back up about a foot or so using a level on the bottom pan mounting surface. I believe I didn't fill mine enough with the vehicle level because of a whine...
Change it every 5000 with good synthetic oil and a new filter. Its easy to remember your intervals when changing every 5000, no need to write it down but it is a good idea to log it in the back of your owners manual where pages are provided for notes. I put the date, mileage and what oil and...
They address that in the latest video where drc's own pumpkin gladiator gets the swap. From the video they mention you can keep your stuff or get a credit for it. They also have a discount code on the swap itself but didnt mention how substantial it is. Iam sure its alot of money.
Subscription services, small displacement turbo engines in 3 ton vehicles, engine drivetrain with the reliability of oracle brake lights, are all things the consumer should not participate in. This is especially true for Jeep.
