Ouch. The OC tech clearly picked up the quality and substance of the Pentastar and mistook it for a Cummins;) Cummins take 11 or 12 quarts on an OC, if memory serves me.
Generally, I've always felt that the engines I've been inside of could be overfilled by at least 2 quarts without fear of...
Am I reading your UOA correctly? Approximately 5000km since the new engine at 30,000km? In which case, you'd be showing a slightly higher break-in iron than what's been discussed in this thread, but not egregiously.
If your UOA indicate aggregate mileage post new engine, then yes your iron...
Yes, I agree the iron is higher than I'd prefer in a perfect world. That said, if I'm reading yours correctly, in you first 2 OCs, my iron is identical or perhaps a bit lower than yours when normalized for mileage interval ~6ppm/1000 miles vs. 6.6ppm/1000 miles --statistically insignificant...
UOA came back. A quick forum search seemed to indicate these results are status quo for new engines tested at this mileage. Others may have collected a more complete breadth of data for Pentastar PU comparison --please share if so.
My takeaway is that these PU's don't seem to mind this...
My son has a set on his HD Diesel truck. He had similar concerns about long term durability and true load capacity on a real truck, but so far so good. He noted them as being exceptionally quiet compared to past tires and they appear to be wearing evenly and at a rational rate so far. ~5k...
Your position is admirable but I believe you are the outlier who uses it responsibly. Most everyone else is checking myface, instafame, or tictac, with no consideration for the speed they’re achieving. They’ll get there when they get there. They don’t care who’s time or money they’re stealing...
Every vehicle indeed has a speed where it operates most efficiently. That speed is different for every make, model, and configuration of each vehicle. The speed limit is not and could not be universally set based on such a variable number.
Broader point being ignored: Even if there was a...
We’ll said. Adaptive cruise reinforces and even normalizes the abhorrent behavior of the scum of the earth driving slow in the left lane.
If our authorities really cared about the environment, resources preservation, or the quality of life of the governed, they would redirect LE to identify...
I like your wheels. The tires look reasonably sized too. Based on that and the stone building behind you, you likely make good decisions in general, so I think you’ll be fine.
That Escape was turning to dust before your eyes. This is a new towing launch point for you.
Minor bone to pick, just so we can add the most value. I’m pretty sure the LSD pack does have splines or teeth on the inner diameter of the frictions and face-teeth or radius lugs on the outer diameter of the steels. That said, I agree I’ve never seen these teeth create debris in the oil...
Hat-tip, Jeep/Mopar/Stellantis. I don’t believe in the nanny-state but if any feature should actually be mandated on modern transportation, it should be cruise control. You should not be on any highway in the left lane unless your CC is both set for 10mph over the posted limit, and you are...
In my experience, all of the Firestone and Michelin compounds perform extremely well in the wet. True MTs are universally treacherous in the rain compared to even a Chinese AT IMO. I’ve had poor luck with Nitto and Falken across the board. FWIW
I appreciate PFs test discipline. In my simple mind, you can’t argue with the wear scar results. He was careful to close by saying to follow the manufacturer recommendations.
I run no lighter than 40 weight oil, usually HD diesel variants, in all my gas engines. Folks on this site have a fit...
How could you drive 70mph in reverse down the interstate when you miss your exit, if it wasn't geared so high? Guys, the tall reverse is a value-added feature.
Correct again. That screen grab does a good job of showing the yoke is indeed sheared too.
Spacers are not used by serious people in serious situations. They do apply excessive forces to areas not originally designed for them. That said, I’m poor too, so I may use spacers on a show-piece if I...
Your right. I saw the yoke was indeed eaten up, but that was no doubt the result of continued travel after the broken u-joint.
My greater hope was to point out that with all the garbage on the internet today it’d be nice if when you say you broke an axle, it meant that you actually had an...
Interesting. That doesn’t look like a factory BJ to me. Note ~4:50ish. They look shiny and appear like an aftermarket design. That said, no matter their origin, they did seem to pull back in to the aluminum knuckle very easily upon reassembly. That’s nice.
I wish they had posted some...
Reverse is a bit tall and unless I give it
more gas, I feel like I’m resting it on the converter when backing up steep inclines.
Keep in mind that the ZF8 is indisputably the greatest transmission made by a human in the last 20 years.
On occasion when I’ve towed very heavy, I have had no...
