Option 2 would work well for me.
I currently have an AJT fob and have an external key hidden on the vehicle; I never needed tro lock the glove compartment, console, or the back upper seat.
I had a local locksmith cut a Jeep Renegade blank emergency insert key for me.
I think because of the FAD the JT/JL are not as easily shifted from 2H to 4H as the JK, because when in 2H the front output of the transfer case is not turning when in the vehicle is in motion as it is with the JK. Defiantly easier to shift from 4H to 2H, I have noticed while moving after you...

Hotheads has 10% sales just about every major holiday, if they repeat their past history they will have a sale around Black Friday about a month away if you can be patient.
Are you trying to use M6x1.0 threaded bolts? There are also fine thread M6x0.75 bolts, but rare, or maybe you are trying to use not metric bolts.
Like what was previously stated above used a m6x1.0 thread chaser (singles are inexpensive), put some oil on it, go in a little, back it out, repeat...
Don't use Rain-X original water repellent (or equivalent type of product) before winter, it will cause moisture to bead up and freeze in beads on the edges of windshield that will not defrost and continually keep building up in time until you have to manually scrape off. Similar to the above...
Time for a 4-speed Atlas transfer case with the 2WD low option to solve all the needed gear ratios for the current terrain, now everybody will be happy with their transfer case gear ratio.
