Sea Kayaks
Did some sea kayaking last weekend, so put the Yakima racks back on the Gladiator. Was taking my 14' plastic boat out, but wanted to see what the 18'6" glass boat looked like on the Gladiator. With the longer sea kayaks, really prefer installing at least one of the Yakima RainGutter...
Oregon Road Trip
Breaking out of our house after COVID insanity, we decided to go to our Oregon coast house Memorial Day week (we use it as a short term rental, but since STRs were banned until June 1, figured we'd use it before the summer rental season started). Worked well with our stuff in...
EAG Tube Doors
Looked at the many options for tube doors. Really wanted the SmittyBilt doors. Ordered them in September, but they went from 5 days shipping to 40+ days, so cancelled the order. Tried again in March, and again looked like these doors are still vaporware.
Gave up on those I...
Utility
Did get to test the utility of the Gladiator through several projects this spring.
For my side gig, I had to ship a bunch of test equipment to Edmonton and back. My shipping crate fits perfect in the back of the JT, and even with 850 lb shipping weight, just a little squat.
We had a...
Yakima Overhaul HD Rack Install
Guess I sort of went MIA on the forum for the last several months. Been out enjoying my Gladiator (& life), so haven't posted any updates for a while. Seeing that a couple of old threads have been resurrected, guess it's time for some updates.
For Christmas I...
Why ship? I flew from San Diego to Boise, Kent picked me up at the airport, and drove it back home (spent a few days exploring ID while I was up there). Lots of places to explore and really try out the JT on the way home. :like:
More feedback on Kent & exploring the area on my build page...
Think the whole sword thing is about as screwed up as the "launch" edition was.
I had originally ordered mine using our OR house address we use as a vacation rental (thinking I'd avoid a bunch of taxes over CA). Then during the 6 month wait for Jeep to deliver the "launch" edition, a few CA...
Well, you're responding to my original post was from February, months before we could touch our first JT.
You can see real world results of mounting kayaks on the Mopar bars in my build thread in this post...
When I first picked it up, I definitely needed a lot of small corrections to keep it straight. First night I aired down to the door jamb pressure (shipped ~3 psi higher). Sometimes there is still a little bit of play, but airing down helped a bunch.
Here's my roof hanger setup. I used existing HF pulleys I had on our garage ceiling from old kayaks, and hung the JT roof from the Yakima roof rack I installed. Solves the hook/attachment problem...
Installation of Roof Rack and Roof Pulley System
After over a week of Santa Ana winds, fire danger, and power outages, I decided to take the top off again since the forecast is in the 80s for the next 10+ days. Last time I had the top off I set it on the floor of my shop, but I don't want to...
So on that OTHER thread (that will no longer be mentioned we were stuck in for months), @HikerBob, @WildJD and I discussed hiding the white on the roof & freedom panels. We've had strong Santa Ana winds and another power outage due to fire danger, so I put the roof back on for a few days...
Let’s get Naked!
Carolina Metal Masters mirrors came in today, so got her naked!
Door removal was pretty straightforward following the manual.
I got the Off Road Concepts 4 door hanger. Works pretty well. Some finesse to get the doors on the hangar, especially the right side which is in the...
Mine just showed up in the mail today too. Cut our power 2:30 this morning due to fire risk (won’t be back on until Sat night), and a 100 acre fire is burning a few miles from us. 90 degrees, 10% humidity and 20 mph winds. May actually throw the top back on for now just to protect the inside. So...
See my post on my build thread. Tried to do basically the same thing. Sold orders are handled differently than dealer stock orders. Kent works with sold orders, dealer stock has to be worked through the GSM. @jncomatrix was able to swap his Granite LE order, but I got the run around when I tried...
Here's my install of the @WildJD roll-up tonneau cover lock: (from my build page):
I liked @WildJD's tonneau cover lock, so did the same to mine. Drilled a hole on the tonneau cover bracket 1/2" down from the center of the rivet. Threaded in a 3" hook into each bracket. Had to slightly enlarge...
