Is a loose ball joint conducive to DW? How about ball joint with very little preload that deflects easily? How about several ball joints that all deflect easily? Notice how heavy the wheels are with MT tires? My belief is that the steering ball joints are ok for a stock base sport but are...
What I noticed on my Gladiator are ball joints that are not "failed" but have weak internal spring loading. These deflect easily. On a car they would be fine but not so with the larger'/heavier wheels the Gladiator runs.
The issue with Electrics is the global infrastructure to support them is 50 years out. Most of the planet can barely keep their current jalopies going. No way they can buy some dicey used electric much less charge it. I predict we will be pulling CO2 out and synthesizing fuel using some nuke...
The AT are great but still looses here due to parasitic drag. Even at lockup its still running the pump and the eight speeds have a LOT of planetaries and clutches each contributing their bit. None of this matters much with the JTs wood pile drag coefficient though.
No kidding!!! Big cities have the affordability problem and small ones have a connectivity problem. Every corner of this country needs gig fiber right now. Oddly my corner of rural Colorado has it but that is not my corner of Texas.
I'm a glutton for fun. I have a manual. Several of them. I also have an auto. Great for commuting and getting groceries. Also great if you want to play with gadgets and not the road.
I think that twichy-ness you mentioned is something they are trying to combat by modifying the steering box behavior and its turning out to be more difficult than they expected. The old XJ/MJ Jeeps I owned were very twichy. I liked it but it was easy to see how some casual driver could get...
The Mojave definitely has softer springs than the Rubicon. Thats how it eats rough terrain at speed but also why it has lower payload capacity. The softer springs is why Ive held off adding new bumper/winch so far.
Ive mentioned this before. Why do so many J series Jeeps have a steering box issue? Are these steering boxes cutting edge technology lol. Id sure like to see one disassembled and analyzed because I just have a difficult time assigning these problems to simple quality control. I mean its not...
So update.
The Cooper XLT is quite different than the 4S in terms how the truck responds to curves. While the XLT would compliment a larger truck nicely it detracts from the Mojave agility compared to the 4S noticeably.
I find that very interesting since I assumed the XLT was essentially...
Sadly the bumper/winch is so far forward its weight is magnified going over bumps. Imagine if its was sticking out five feet on a steel beam. its mass is multiplied. So the lightest bumper/winch combo possible pays off on preserving what the Mojave was designed for.
The mojave is not a rock crawler. Its sensitive to a big chunk of mass hanging on its nose.
Ive held off adding a winch for that reason. You can shed about 30lbs by swapping the Mojave hood for a sport hood though.
