I wanted a manual because Jeeps should be manuals. But the main reason I bought it, was for towing a camper we were buying. So I had to go with the auto, which I really don't mind.
I have been half nekkid all weekend, unual that I get that much time with the doors off in upstate NY. I was the only one in the truck so I didn't see a need to take all 4 off.
I still have to buy a bunch of pvc and build a rack for my doors, since I don't have a garage.
I think its cool. I am adding stickers to mine for all the places we go. The only problem is, I have the softtop installed now, and the hard top is stored at a friend's house. I have to collect all my stickers and put them on when I put the hard top back on.
I never use the velcro straps when I have my softtop open, and I drive the highway a lot. I found that I can open the soft top from the drivers seat without using the wind. Pop it open reach back, push on the bar and I can get enough momentum for it to close on its own.
You will also need tow mirrors. This is the setup I have. I used them last weekend and it a godsend.

Make sure you have to correct rear bumper. My JTR came with the trailer electrical connections, but did not have a reciever for a hitch. I could only mount a ball on...
The main reason I purchased a JTR was because they are cool a shit, and my girlfriend loves to camp but will never tent camp again, so I knew I was getting a travel traile this year. This was also my first rewal world towing experience.
We just finished a 345 mile round trip adventure, up the...
This is the one I ordered. haven't gotten around to installing it yet.

I did this, by accident. I pulled the top down at lunch to keep the interior cooler, but never latched it. Came out after work jumped in it and took off. That top slammed back so hard I thought it flew off. I now make a concious effort to close 1 latch when I put it down for shade.
We headed down to Myrtle Beach last week and took our mountain bikes. I knew the JTR wasnt exactly suited for that road trip and her Chevy Blazer would have been a lot better on gas. But I planned on cruising the strip, topless and doorless, the gas shortage nixed that plan.
We took 81 from NY...
I just finished a trip from NY to Virginia to South Carolina, and back to NY with my bikes mounted like this. No issues what so ever, except I couldnt get in the parking garage at the hotel with the bikes mounted. That was fine because I would rather have them in the room with us.
My Rubicon recently dropped my Android from BT and wouldn't reconnect. I had to "pair a new device" and add my phone again, even though I only had 2 phones paired and mine was the primary. Has dropepd it since then.
Installing 1 5/8 uni-strut around the inside of the bed, instead of buying the factory trail rails. I am ttrying to find the thread that has all the parts listed out, that you can get at any hardware store or McMaster-Carr.
Or there is this version...
Those brackets are pretty sturdy when attached to the trail rail system, or the DIY rail system I installed. I suppose that if you cut off the vertical section, where the cross bars would mount, and weld a plate on to extend to flat surface. You would be able to drill some holes in the extension...
Hey I know that picture, that's my truck. Those 90 degree brackets are designed for use with the tonneau cover. I take mine through the car wash and not a whole lot of water gets in. The factory cover still rolls up with these brackets and crossbars installed. If you need to remove the cross...
Ok KBvoodoo sells the "no drill clips" that attach to you bed and you don't need to rails. I installed the DIY bedrail system, and then attached the KBVoodoo to that, seemed my secure to me.
The Yakima high Roads aren't mandatory, that's jus what I went with. Any tray style bike rack will work, you may just need to adjust the mounting on the KBvoodoo cross bars.
Do you have the trail rail system, or DIY rail system?
I was making this harder on myself than it needed to be. I purchased an AC/DC converter and plugged it into the 120v outlet in the rear seats. Now I have my camera display back.
