On the last leg of my trip, I experienced the P00AF 1 time. It was weird because it occurred during light load conditions and I wasn't datalogging so I am unable to diagnose the situation. I data logged the rest of the day and pushed it hard but wasn't able to get the error to reocurre. My PCM...
No codes. Just redlining coolant temp. Did your coolant temp sensor fail?
Luckily, the thermostat replacement is simple and it is finished. I hope that's all it was ...
Made it from MN to Chattanooga,TN fault free. Previously, I would have had a dozen or more faults by now. Its nearly safe to call the new actuator a fix. Wahoo!
On an unrelated matter, I have been dealing with runaway overheating which had never previously happened. The coolant temp will...
It's my pleasure. I am often incentivized when someone (or the dealer) says something isn't possible without explanation, especially when all mechanical and technical indications indicate it is possible.
The actuator swap is a 15-minute job. I have removed my engine cover and engine insulation...
Adapting seats from a different vehicle can be tricky because most OEM seat frames have integrated mounting specific for the application. With some fabrication skills, adaptation is definitely possible. Many late model vehicles use a CAN BUS system for controls so adapting late model power seats...
I do not have an aux water cooler. Coolant has always remained happy for me. I've only seen one power derate due to oil temp before my aux oil cooler.
Yes I'm in Willmar
The system has been working well for me, there are no leaks. There are times where I wish I would have removed the factory coolant based exchanger and plumbed the air cooled oil cooler from there. But besides that I have no complaints with the bypass filter or oil cooler.
According to the actuator rebuilder I purchased my 0050 from, the 0050 and 0072 are interchangeable. As with everything I've shared, take this information as "trust but verify".
Hopefully, I will receive my 0050 actuator before I depart for Daytona Beach on Sunday the 20th to take it along as a...
I bought a replacement turbo assuming to do the full swap and the 0072 was installed on it. I haven't found a source for the 0072 yet but I am contacting rebuilders to see if they offer the 0072 and see if I can learn what the difference between 0072 and 0050 are.
I ran a load test yesterday and was able to create the same thermal conditions >1400F EGT temps and extended full boost loaded condition that would previously result in the P00AF code but in this case, the system functioned as it should.
I am not 100% convinced the issue is resolved but I feel...
I have been researching the turbo and actuator details and here are the part numbers I have found so far.

The other option is to hook it up to my oscilloscope and put it in the oven to observe its behavior while actuating it. Thats a layer of deep I am not ready for
I didn't, I may do that for fun but based on the data I've collected, the issue only occurs under certain circumstances. I have included some photos with data collected proceeding the P00AF code. For the graphs with two vertical lines the dotted vertical line represents the P00AF trigger, if the...
I swapped my VGT actuator for the hell of it :).
I learned there is no VGT calibration function for our platform. I first tried AlphaOBD and then resorted to WiTech 2.0 and found no option. After some researching I found it doesn't exist. This was after I swapped the unit. At that point I...
With the darkness of the photo and lack of contrast, it's difficult to make sense of the details. I modified the photo by lightening and adding contrast. The screw bosses on the front and back half are designed to mate face to face. The boss design on the back half above the face is "chamfered "...
I agree with your belief in a QC issue. I was initially going down the path of designing a heat exchanger for the turbo vane actuator but ditched the effort once I determined a lack of correlation.
I ultimately have assumed its a QC issue with the vane system or the actuator.
It's also crazy...
I didn't read the entire post but now see you have the S+, same as mine. We've had a few rare cases where the + battery contactor was bent outward resulting in erratic contact but I can't envision how closing the fob would negatively impact that. However, the issue has to be a battery connection...
I don't have that version handy but its got to be something with the battery placement where it's binding and not making contact when pushed closed.
Here is a photo of a similar model. Can you make sure the battery is fully seated. maybe provide a photo or two of the battery in place before...
So far, I do not have a data-driven hypothesis for the cause. Despite having two ECUs (one factory and one tuned), the dealer has claimed FCA can detect the ECU changeouts and therefore I do not have warranty. They verbally quoted $6k to $7k for the turbo replacement which is crazy. Of course, I...
