Some times we forget that the 3 liter turbo diesel is really a very small motor with relatively low horsepower. The JT is not a light vehicle. Add towing, steep inclines and hot weather .... and you maybe asking for alot from that little 3 liter. As for the OP. Maybe you do need a different...

I'm well aware of these heat soak issues with turbos. But all this talk about having to pull over and cool the JTRD is a little disconcerting. We'll see. My ordered JTRD should be here in a month. Hopefully.

It was on my order build sheet. $8 for 3.5 additional gallons of diesel. $9 for 4 additional gallons of gas. I ordered a DIESEL. Pretty sure I do not need the gas.
