What id like to know is what the first shop did in using this vacuum system and flushing with descaler. 1 gallon of the OAT and the rest of it is the descaler left in there. What is that stuff? Vinegar water or something worse that strips the cooling system in short order then it’s mixed with...
This is where you need to secure a recording device around until it sounds the loudest and tell the tech. These guys only have a certain amount of time allotted to them. Beyond that, they can’t take the time for it.
What’s the mix ratio of coolant in NASCAR cars? How much cavitation is happing in those and “like” extreme track vehicles?
Concentrate will mix if all you have in there after a flush is “some amount” of water, right? As far as knowing what the percentage is, a coolant tester may not give you...
If I were trying to find/locate the source of this noise I would secure my phone or recording device to the front, then the back of the engine and see which one is louder. Start there.
Can this noise be reproduced in Park and hitting the throttle?
…and if I remember correctly the first shop only used the concentrate and non of the distilled water nor any of the 50/50, correct? They also used a vacuum system, yes?
I personally have no experience using or seeing how a vacuum system works, would love to read what @ShadowsPapa could say...
Not sure if anyone has considered the “commissions” factor in the 8 pages here. Service advisors and parts counter employees make a commission on their sales. They have to sell to earn a paycheque.
This puzzles me a bit. I too have a steering pump noise when I touch the steering wheel but the intermittent sound from the pump is a low/mid range hum. It’s not an intermittent high pitch whine. But as you said, you found it when your son was working the steering wheel.
Great tool to have is a...
Sounds oddly similar to what I was experiencing. Pull out your aux, tape up the ends, install the box and take note of the aux voltage when pulled vs voltage of the main. (Mine were both the same(ish). Aux was 12.5-6 and the main was sitting at 12.5)
Watch your alternator charge voltage to your...
Good news boys and girls, changing out the main battery, sanding the mating surfaces of the IBS and giving it a day is proving I’ve done the right thing. Driving alternator V is now at 13.1v from 14.2v.
Time to let the hair down and fit that 20t Harbor Freight hydrologic jack in the glove box...
Harbor Freight, hydrolic fluid, Flukes, 20t, running outta air, glove box and boats…???! What in tar nation are we talking bout?? I’m going back to bed. I’ll come back in a few and see if we’re gonna be ok. 🤣
I’d be quite happy seeing those numbers but sample is only 2k miles. I was surprised to see the Phosphorus and Zinc numbers pretty much “double” that of Pennzoil UP. Those two work together as an anti-wear.
I know that too much zinc can cause adverse effects but I’m assuming Royal Purple knows...
I went to Lordco to warranty exchange out the 2 year old OPTIMA battery. The whole drive there, alternator showed 14.2v, parked, shut it off and battery at 12.7….then quickly dropped to 12.3.
Talked with the parts guy and he confirmed that he’s seen several yellow tops die early and come back...
