I am through my fourth visit to address the problem. Check out my last post above. Resetting the CEL Light does not work. Flashing the PCM with the update does not work. Replacing rockers and lifters and VVL solenoid on left side of the engine did fix the problem, at least for one day now...
I just picked up my Gladiator after the 4th visit for CEL Light, ESS Needs Service, and engine misfires on cold starts. Report:
PAGE 1 of Service Invoice States:
REPLACED LIFTER AND ROCKERS ON LEFT SIDE AND VVL SOLENOID.
PAGE 1 then discussed various tests, including "2 recordings using...
Next step is computer update, and now a second update.
Third step is replacing engine parts such as lifters, rockers, etc..
So far, the only reported true fix I have read about here is a complete engine replacement.
I am just finishing 3rd step.
I just got a call from my Service Manager. Reportedly, my Gladiator "passed" the compression test. But in doing the work, the mechanic noticed that lifters on the left side of the engine were "loose," and that new lifters would be installed. Additionally, another computer update to address...
I am at the same point. My service dealer seems to be resisting the test to determine whether compression issue is the cause of my problem.
My regular symptoms are ESS needs service and sensation of misfiring engine. I have had 4 CEL lights over 3.5 months since purchase. Were your symptoms...
Interesting. I am on my fourth service visit and been requesting an engine compression test for 2 days now. So far, no cooperation.
what other tests or repair attempts were made before the engine compression problem was identified?
I am in the middle of this right now. My Gladiator is at the dealer for the 4th and final repair attempt under Florida Lemon law. FCA coordinator and service dealer are refusing to tell me wether a compression test has been done. And they are also claiming the can not duplicate the problemS...
So, other than replacing engine, has anyone with the ESS needs service, CEL and engine misfire code problems
actually gotten their engine fixed? Mine is at the Service Dealer for repair attempt #4 right now. Problem persists even after software update.
I have had ESS needs service, 3 CEL lights, and P0300 engine misfire codes since purchase on May 15. I will be taking it in for 4th and final repair attempt shortly.
How did you get to the new engine option?
Mine has been in for service 3 times and never fixed. FCA gets one more chance to fix the problem. Waiting for them to call.
if not fixed, I do want a replacement. Does anyone know how that works with a leased vehicle?
Sadly wrote my Florida Law final demand letter to FCA to repair my CEL and ESS warning related to engine misfires after three prior repair attempts failed.
I am in Florida. So I have to send them a final demand that they fix the CEL, Ess needs service and misfires before I am eligible for arbitration and buyback. Now that the software fix has not fixed the problem, I wonder what is next.
