Here on the north side of Dallas, my hit rate is probably over 50% when we can see each other. The bigger problem is the wider multi-lane roads with medians making it difficult to see. The further I get out into the country, the higher the hit rate goes.
I should have gotten the string lights on clearance. Didn’t see a need, but now I do. I’m kicking myself for it. Such is life. But the OneSource lanterns are also great. Got two of those and the Bluetooth speaker.
I bought two Coleman OneSource 1k lumen flashlights on clearance at Academy for $20 each. They’re orders of magnitude brighter than my old maglite, even after I replaced the bulb with an LED. I mean they’re spotlight bright.
They charge via USB, and they use battery packs similar to 12v power...
I’ll have it at least 6 years. That’s the minimum intended service life for any vehicle we buy. We can’t currently afford to own or maintain more than 2 vehicles (daily drivers) so I’ll have to see what the situation looks like 4 years from now - we’re already two years into ownership.
That all...
IMO, the components for traction are, in order:
Good tires
4x4
Articulation
Lockers or limited slip diffs
Every Gladiator comes with #2 and #3, and #1 is an easy fix. Solve that and you already more off-road capable than 95% of the vehicles on the road. For your use case, “good enough” truly...
Ultimately, I think you’re going to be fine. Many, if not most, people will tell you to get a winch before spending on diffs (limited slip or lockers), anyway. Plus they look cool. ?
It’s also very possible to upgrade, though I don’t k ow the cost. If you’re planning to regear for bigger tires, you can do both at the same time to remove a LOT of labor cost.
Just watched the video with sound. Definitely heard an “f you” and a “what the f” near the end - presumably from the Corvette driver who is now east to hear since he has no window.
If you’re getting flashed with stock bulbs, that’s not a brightness issue. That’s a calibration issue. If you get that fixed, you should be safe to move to LED bulbs. It’s not ideal, but it’s not the end of the world, either. If LED bulbs are an issue, other drivers will let you know. I moved to...
This brings me scary flashbacks. Back in college I changed my girlfriend’s tire after we went out one night. It was late and for some reason I decided it would be a good idea to follow her home. Halfway there, something just didn’t feel right so I flagged her down and double checked the wheel...
If it only happens around or above a certain speed, one of your tires is probably out of balance. Do you feel the shake in your steering wheel or only in the seat? That could be an indicator of whether it’s in the front or the back.
