  1. Rear Defroster, hard top conversion

If you start with a soft top JT, and add a hard top later, what is involved to add the rear window defrost function? I believe I read somewhere on here that the wiring is present. But what about the defrost button on the HVAC? And if it’s not present, how would you add it? (I’m guessing...
  2. Computer not computing?

I think there’s a few things at play here. Odometers should be +/- 4% by NIST handbook Handbook 44 ā€˜Specifications, Tolerances, and other Technical Requirements for Weighing and Measuring Devices'ā€‰ā€ (the NIST Handbook).  (NIST Handbook, § 5.53, A.1, T.1, T.2 (2008) Speedometers seem to have...
  3. DaWolf's Sport S 6 Speed Build/Log

What’s the difference between the sport rear bumper and the one on the rubicon? I thought they were the same other than the color of the tow hooks?
  4. Sport (not S) with Max Tow, Opinions?

Pretty sure I read it has the larger brakes as well, same as rubicon.
  5. Magnuson TVS1900 Kit Available Now

Nice! How well does the factory clutch hold up, or is there a mandatory clutch upgrade needed with this? How well does the drive belt hold up over time with the manual drivetrain? Another company was having some issues with that and it seemed to be related to the manual trans. It sounded...
  6. M/T Gladiator vs M/T Tacoma

In their defense the base turd off road package is pretty reasonable (typical pretax/fee price $33.5k if you can truly find a unicorn no options off-road) and does come standard with a rear locker, all the usual power stuff, radar cruise/safety crap, 8ā€ screen that stays a full 8ā€ screen with...
  7. M/T Gladiator vs M/T Tacoma

No no they are better off-road according to the Tacoma chief engineer ;) ha. After owning both a 73 CJ-5 and a 47 CJ-2a with four wheel drums I know they don’t work hardly at all once you get them wet or muddy. But at least they hold the mud inside forever as well.
  8. Magnuson TVS1900 Kit Available Now

Is this available/compatible with the manual transmission?
  9. M/T Gladiator vs M/T Tacoma

Absolutely! I meant in 5-10 or however many years when they are no longer available. I had a bit of a rare option Chevy pickup that I bought new. Standard cab, short box, LS v8, manual, 4.10’s, nicely equipped for the time (power everything). Kinda hard to get back then but absolutely...
  10. M/T Gladiator vs M/T Tacoma

My own experience isn’t that the unicorn discontinued M/T is the most desirable, they can even be difficult to sell. But if you are looking for one to buy they are hard to find!
  11. Anyone Put Max Tow Rear Springs on their Rubicon?

Is that the same coil they put on a regular sport S tow? What about the sport base? Is there a thread on here listing the various combinations?
  12. Anyone Put Max Tow Rear Springs on their Rubicon?

Another one to ponder, the uncommon option of a Sport S without tow that has the higher GVWR and highest listed payload; which springs does it have? My guess would be the max tow springs (both are same 6250 GVWR and similar payload 1600/1550 listed), but I’m curious.
  13. M/T Gladiator vs M/T Tacoma

I totally agree. The new power seat, if your short, is a game changer here but at the end of the day you have a truck that’s nearly as big as a suburban on the outside but yet has less interior space and comfort than a corolla. I got a message someone must have deleted or I can’t find it on...
  14. M/T Gladiator vs M/T Tacoma

One other consideration by the time you add the auto ($2k), max tow ($1k) and 7ā€ screen ($1k) to a sport S ($3k) you are only around $2k street price difference to a rubicon manual. I do wish you could get a max tow manual or a base (roll up windows version) rubicon. Rubicon package is not a...
  15. Factory V8

I found a few more sources talking about the new I6. Sounds like they have the plan to build it on the same assembly line as the 2.0 4cyl, sounds like nominally a 3.0 liter size. Supposedly a target of 3ā€? longer than the 4cyl (which sounds impossible but could be for the entire assembly...
  16. New to Jeeping, looking for nice trails in NW Washington State

I haven’t been up to Evans creek ORV area in about 17 years but you might check it out. The harder stuff would have been too tight back then but I don’t know what it’s like these days. I think some of the forest roads would be fine and there are some great viewpoints of rainier. I live a...
  17. Factory V8

I’ve had/have both the 258 and the 4.0 I6. Honestly I’m not a fan at all. Both have been slow, noisy, underpowered gas hogs for me. Only good thing I can say is that they do have good low end grunt. My 4.0 will chug over things at idle in high range that would stall out my Toyota 4cyl with...
  18. Factory V8

I think there’s a fun factor with the v8, the sound and the feel that is hard to capture with numbers. I have a 5.7 in my JGC and it’s fun! If I could have more power I would. I don’t drive fast but I like having the effortless power on tap. Point and squirt; it goes. My buddy has a 1927...
  19. Factory V8

I’d bet a dollar, maybe even 2 that the new grand wagoneer and grand Cherokee are designed around the I6, and never get a V8. Rumors talk about 360-500hp and you’d assume they save some weight and improve gas mileage over the Hemi v8. With a possible 500 hp I6 I just can’t see why they would...
  20. Jon's Jeep Build

I’ve adjusted steering boxes on other makes and older jeeps. The risk as I understand it is that if you go too far it is possible to damage or accelerate the wear on the worm gear/follower. Does the FSM have a procedure for adjusting so that you know you went the ā€œrightā€ amount? On the older...
