People assemble them only because a robot doesn't, yet. Nothing the person does determines the non failure of the cams that we are having. The parts are all the same and are not custom fitted into each block. If your cam fails there is nothing special about its replacement and nothing special is...
Our 3.6 isa mass produced engine. There is nothing hand built about it. The cam failure is designed into it, not caused by assembly. It will go till it fails, and it will eventually will fail. My plan is to dump this dog before it does fail. That will be just luck, or not. Or I could just save...
Do you add any friction modification to your oil? If it's friction that's killing the cams. Some of them say they go into the steel, really. Perhaps someday the valves will be solenoid operated .
IMO, unless your 3.6 is really shot don't look for Stelantis to do a complete engine. They give you a cam and pick you and your jeep down the road hoping it gets totaled or something. The do that with the trans issues. If it still moves and no CELs then it aint broke.
With all the cam failures noted here when do we move from a seldom issue to a more certain one? My '22 with 28K on it already has the trans issue and waiting for failure for repair. Don't want to add a cam to the list.
I believe very few U tubers. Dirt road Cred, Trail Recon, Epic Offroad, Ozark Overlanding, I won't list the ones I just can't believe. If you look and talk like a goob , well maybe. I could be wrong.
My 3-4 shift one time has gone between 3 and 4 a few times but is usually good. As soon as it goes through the gears one time then all is well. The 3-4 shift will sometimes feel like a power shift, one time. All I can really do is wait for a failure that might not ever come.
A phone conversation with a huge Jeep repair shop here in So Cal and they say some do it and some don't. It's probably not going to cause a failure so just forget about it. Jeep might have a repair flash for it someday but don't loose any sleep over it. So I am done.
So glad I found this thread as mine is exactly doing this. Dealer will not replace till it fails more. Could this go on for 100K miles? I don't feel good about taking it on a trip with failure in the future. Does anyone know what fails or what causes the failure?
A phone conversation with dealer service manager, a good guy that I know. A hard clunk on time when cold going into reverse will not get the trans replaced. Has to be more in failure. They will keep it overnight to diagnose possible problem if I want. They don't fix it till it's broken.
They should not be allowed to sell new Jeeps or anything with. a 3.6 till the backorders are filled. Think of the millions they are going to save by allowing the warranty expire while waiting for a cam.
I was fine with my light 37s and 4.10s but the 4.88s really woke up things. 80 on the freeway is no problem and around town it just jumps off the stoplight line. I still get 14-15 around town.
All my issues happen when it is cold, first time in the morning. The P to R clunk, the 3-4 hard shift, and when coming to the first stop it downshifts rather hard but no noise there yet . I wish there was a way to make the thing just fail so I could get it replaced. But no CELs or issues when...
