I’m pulling a 23’ travel trailer frequently as well (likely 5500 lbs fully loaded) and an staying at 4.88’s as well based on the advice of a great local off-road shop here in MD. Just waiting to get ours delivered for installation.
I’m in that same position, but I tow a 22’ camping trailer as well. Still thinking that I want to stay with the 4.88’s to be closer to the stock ratios, but not 100% locked into that decision. My gas mileage is bad enough, I’m not sure I want the additional drop going to 5.13’s or need the...
I’ve been wheeling my 3.5 Clayton Off-road quite a bit since the lift was put on with no change to the driveshaft and haven’t seen an issue. Maybe in a year I’ll see that there is wear (?), but for now I can’t see the need to put in the extra dollars.
Also, for getting dirt under her tires, the nearest options to Google are the Frederick Watershed (forest road), Peter’s Mill Run, Flagpole Knob VA, Rausch Creek Off-road Park and AOAA off-road park
We went with the 17 x 9 at 0 offset. Note that my installer said that the 2" center hub on the wheel is smaller than the OEM and the spare tire mounting collar has a 2.25" diameter. He had to cut and reweld the mount in order to make the wheel fit as a spare.
Broke in the new @Clayton Off Road 3.5 Overland suspension and 37” KM3 tires this weekend at Rausch Creek in PA and had a blast. Love the way this new suspension rides.
Right there with you...what height, from which company, with which size tire, then AT or MT, from what brand, on whose wheels, with how much offset, and should I regear or upgrade the front driveshaft while at it?
Youtube and forum search data overload....
Looks like you made great choices though.
I drove a 2020 Overland for a year on 35” Nitto RG’s and never felt like it was a problem, no regear. We were off-road as many weekends as we could and it was fine.
I can’t speak to the 39’s, but I wheel with a few JTR’s on 37’s with no regear and OEM axels. There are some trade-offs with gas mileage, but if your not constantly wheeling hard core trails it seems definitely doable. The 4.10 gears paired with the 8-speed automatic offers a lot of...
Wow, you really got the cherry red to come out in that photo...it's amazing how different the color looks based on lighting. Ready to get our sunrider out as well and start popping open the top.
I just realized that I didn't answer your question on tires, so far the KM3's have been fine on the road but they're built for offroad as the priority. After 12k to 15k miles, I may end up wishing that I had gone K02's but we'll see. I was first going with the Nitto Trail Grapplers, but after...
A regear is the big question to be answered after we go pull our new trailer some. We worked with a fantastic local Jeep shop here in Maryland on the build and the owner pulls a trailer with his own JTR on 37’s and he thought we’d be fine. I checked on the highway and we were in 8th gear doing...
Funny that you mentioned the bumper...that’s the debate with the wife right now.
These are the Mopar Performance Rails. Best price was from Bam Wholesale. I liked some of the frame mounted rails as well, but decided on these.
