The current Ranger is a stop-gap with an old interior. I could definitely see them making it more Bronco-like for its next iteration. As it stands, many buyers are probably just driving off with an F150 when they visit their dealer to look at a Ranger.

Jeep offered this with the J8 conversion for JKUs. I think it would require a custom/kit bed, and doubt the JT bed would work. Otherwise, it seems perfectly feasible.
