$20 harbor fraught light cube + $10 generic 7 pin trailer plug = el cheapo reverse light.
It is pitch dark backing up my drive at night and the plate lights wash out my backup camera. Instead of trying to block that light I figured I'd make the FOV brighter with a flood and make maneuvering...
I carry gas at least once a week and this is what works for me except I use Midwest brand metal cans. You don’t need a $400 solution to a $30 problem. $30 because it’s best not to cheap out on ratchet straps.
I haven't gotten around to ordering one yet which is giving me more time to peruse the market. I did buy a soft-topper though which has been on the truck since October, and I've been very happy with it. Lately I've been having to haul a lot of water and the height is good for standing up 15...
Consensus in the amateur radio field is direct battery wiring is best. I've used a battery isolator that has adjustable time off and voltage cut off to protect your battery. Negative lead always to a frame ground. Then I add a DC filter inline to isolate vehicle rf from the radio and vice...
You get it obviously, the jeep thing. Nothing like driving an agrarian porky off road machine daily. Ask yourself if you believe vehicles like this will be around in 10 years or at least new. Probably not right? There is really nothing like it on the road that's not custom or vintage and...
For perspective, June 1st 2021 we went over cinnamon pass from Silverton to Lake City in an 18' forester loaded to the gills with 160# rtt, three weeks of food/camping gear. Only mods were 15" BFG kO2s and 2" lift. The only difference in the JTR would have been much less driver fatigue and...
I noticed this when shopping my truck. Having done a number of mobile radio installs I see it as a really great feature along with the AUX switch group. It was a must have to take most of the anger out of doing a clean installation.
Olympic has a ski facility for downhill, back country and cross country. I can get from my front door to a mile above sea level and 100+" of snow in under an hour. Pretty awesome.
The national parks (Olympic, Ranier) require all vehicles to carry them in the alpine areas during winter season. I bought them during a cross country trip through snow country and will keep them in the bed for the above.
I'm a total manual transmission afficionado but the ZF in the jeep is the best automatic I've ever driven to the point I didn't regret buying one to get the higher tow rating. You shouldn't be disappointed by it, great track record with a global footprint.
The big difference between the two...
I'll stick with the nice analog gauges while those are still a thing. Give it a few years and such gauges will be a luxury option like a mechanical watch.
I find my mostly stock Rubicon with a winch and soft topper averages 15ish in daily driving which is mostly trips under 20 miles. At steady highway speeds that will climb to 17+. These just aren't efficient vehicles and the winter gas as many others have stated will take a big bite. You...
While the fob is immense, the one benefit of the keyless start/entry that I'll concede is that once pocketed I don't need to haul that thing out until I get back home. If I needed to pull it out to start the truck I would probably just put it on a shoulder strap.
AND - you lose the select-fill alert or whatever it was in Chrysler speak. Small bummer on that. Engine cover gone - feature in my opinion. Diff drain plug - minor annoyance cheaply solved with good aftermarket. Red dash, molle and fox's - I'd have been pretty unhappy had I gotten stiffed on...
I didn't realize I like my molle panels until I saw that image. Looks like a.... sedan. Those pockets always get beat up by a toddler, the molle at least seems to stand up to a daily beating of kicks with muddy boots.
Yeah, I was going to say, if you really want portal axles a surplus HMMWV is probably the most pragmatic option. I wouldn't want them on a DD, you are stuck in a low gear ratio. Ever driven a humvee on the highway? It sucks.
