Has anyone taken the plunge yet? Looks interesting, I could carry my canoe and RTT on the topper.

Looks like a great trip, thank you for the pictures. So what do you think after the first trip? Any changes or additions in the works. I'm moving from my old land rover with a swing door in the rear to the gladiator tailgate and wondering how it works out with the drawers.
I do as well, very inspirational. He has done a terrific job putting it together.
Here is his thread.

I kind of like it. Looks utilitarian.
Last I checked the alucab topper was $3500 before shipping. I think the manufacturers are enjoying the windfall while they can. New toppers for similar size trucks are more in the $2000 range.

There are undoubtedly many of us out there that just want a simple shell without spending upwards of $4000 hard-earned dollars. Or alternatively taking the time to build or modify something to work.
There are some amazing guys with tremendous fabrication skills displayed on this forum and others...
Great info, I appreciate your advice on the build.
I found this one but don't know If I want to drive 200 miles to pick it up.

Thank you, gives me a place to start looking. Much like yourself, I have a hard time parting with that much cash for a topper. Then waiting up to 6 months for it to show up. The market is crazzy.
Great Job. I'm impressed and motivated now. Any idea what truck it was originally designed for? What are the dimensions of the original? I'm looking for an old topper frame as we speak.
Yes mine does as well. Pretty shocking the first time I saw it. The more high teck engines are amazing. My other truck is an old 63 land rover for contrast.
Great idea. I wonder how long it will take to clear the backlog of orders. I have resisted ordering one because of the long lead time. Also, I wonder if pricing will change with production in the states.
Saw this and it looks interesting but a bit spendy.

It's possible the spout you have is defective but the supplied spout has worked for me in the past. You want to be sure the spout is all the way seated against the can lip seal. It can be a little fiddly at first, they fit tight. Then fully depress the latch down clamping the spout. The supplied...
Side boxes work well. Very easy access from the sides depending on how much lift you use. I mounted two on my last truck. It was a Hummer H3T alpha I traded in for my Gladiator. Miss the v8 but not all the plastic and the IFS front end. The bed was even plastic.
I picked up most of my wavian cans at Sportsmans warehouse in Alaska but Granger on e bay sells the real deal as well. They are kind of spendy but you get what you pay for. They never leak. I used the US Army metal cans for several years and always had fuel dribling out.
Here is the link for the bed mount. Looks pretty good. But I have a hard time permanently dedicating bed space. I use the truck for so many things that I can't just bolt all the goodies in the bed.
I have used all manner of different gas containers over the years both in Alaska and the desert...
