Great info, thank you. I cut out 13 inches, seemed to do the trick. I used a map torch and some aluminum rod to start brazing it together. Seems to work pretty well. The joints stand up to some pretty good whacks from my ball peen hammer. I plan on riveting on a few doublers as well for...
What did you end up with for a finished length of the topper? I see what you mean about the length. The bottom of the door should be in front of the molded curved area on top of the tailgate. My door is too low as well, about 1 inch lower than the bottom of the rails. Looks like it should be...
What do you think of the wedge tent? I had a soft cover tent for awhile but got real tired of messing about with the cover and sold it. My thought was to go hard shell next time. I missed the addition of vents but it sounds like a great idea.
This is a terrific thread. I finally found a donor topper for the project. Its 62 X 75 so will need to be shortened some. Did you repair your frame by welding or brazing?
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it. Planning on purchasing one soon. Some people have talked about problems with GPS and Sirus reception. Have you had any issues? Looking forward to a video. I have enjoyed your YouTube channel.
Looks like its been a year. What do you think of the Frontrunner extreme rack now? Any issues with the powder coat out in the weather? I have a soft topper so I need to carry a roof top tent and mount an awning to it over the cab.
Good to hear. Its either this one or the rhino back bone platform for me.
Did the Front runner platform interfere with the original GPS and Sirius antenna?
Looks great, they can make a nice product. I have priced them twice last year with less options and they always seem to get over $4000 quick so I stopped looking. Just not worth the money to keep rain off the gear. I got a soft topper instead.
It was the ( DAC DA3 Mid Size Truck Bed Tent) and it does NOT come with poles. I used some 3/4 inch PVC pipe to make some quick poles for now. I am told one from soft topper comes with poles.
Some great solutions on here. I wanted a fast and simple way to sleep in the bed with a little more room. The older I get the less I like all the expensive gadgets. Now I need a simple set of cross bars to mount my awning.
My turn to post. My wife and I installed it this afternoon.
Not too bad. The zippers are a little hard to get started in all the fabric folds and yes the rear window side zips are the most difficult. Not a surprise to all of us that have fiddled around with soft tops before. Over all Its a well...
