The Straight Pipes just uploaded their video of the Gladiator launch event. In the video they are driving a manual transmission JT. Overall impression from one of the guys (don't recall which one) was that it's better than the JK transmission, which they would definitely not have ordered in...
Thanks for the added details here - much appreciated. Lots of food for thought here. I may end up taking the Pentastar and 6-speed stick instead of the ED if there isn't a remarkable turnaround on reliability and efficiency when these arrive for Gladiator.
Good point, but the lease already includes GAP.... I've never looked at options to choose my own GAP vs. what's rolled in to the lease. Does anyone read all of that fine print? :headbang:
I would never put money down on a lease... Imagine an accident that totals the vehicle. Gap insurance only covers what the finance company needs to see to become whole; if you put half of the lease cash down upon purchase, you're out that money forever...
~$300/month with no money down for...
Thanks very much for your detailed review here. I have expected the ED to make a huge difference for power and economy up here at altitude, but your real world report here has me reconsidering. Since you're comparing a JL with a GC, I'd expect the GC to have better highway economy based on...
They could offer it as optional on Sport S with Max Tow package. They already rope in ppl to take the auto trans and other costly hardware that way, in addition to the thousands for the diesel itself.
If one could get < invoice and the 90% residual together, it’s a very strong proposition for anyone who is testing the waters or awaiting diesels, two doors, or other unicorn build specs.
90% residuals are VERY strong... We all know Jeeps hold value, but WTF with that!?
I would guess that this is a ploy by FCA to get many, many butts into Gladiators as possible coming out of the gate here early on. It also explains some of the strong messaging from FCA w/r/t Affiliate discounts...
Most forums have a section as described by the OP... Surprised there's nothing like that here already. I'd definitely participate in a CO / Rocky Mountain sub-section.
Completely agreed. I've had high-end PDK, DSG, DCT, ABC123, etc. transmissions, and have the ZF 8 speed in our Durango R/T. Other than the Durango (which is only fun in straight line) I always feel there's something missing from the experience when the car shifts on its own. My YJ was manual...
I recall seeing/reading information indicating that the systems work the same regardless of transmission type. Remember that all of these driver aids are not supposed to allow for full autonomous driving... so when an emergency assist stop is happening the expectation is that the driver would...
Compare the exterior dimensions of Gladiator vs. Power Wagon and tell me which you'd rather have in the crawl scenario pictured below. For where I need to off-road here in Colorado, I need narrow more than wide. It's also good to have a truck that actually fits in my garage, which would be a...
I took that same approach to my current daily driver, for different reasons. Happy that my lease is up next April - Gladiator inventory should be fine for bargaining early next spring. :)
I figure this would be my last ICE vehicle purchase before the market pivots completely to electric, as I intend to hang on to this vehicle for many years. I'd rather have a known entity engine in there like the Pentastar instead of something like the 2.0t in the Wrangler or brand-new EcoDiesel...
