Where in MA are you? I am about 15 miles north of Boston, Kelly on RT1 in Lynnfield has a pretty good inventory usually but they don't discount much, also read somewhere they are now the largest Jeep dealer in the US, not sure what they are measuring to determine that.
That appears to be the process for the current axle as well, as mentioned later in the thread you can get loaded axle shafts which would make it much easier, they are around $330 from what I found. I would still be tempted to just do it myself and eat the cost vs dealing with the service...
What is the process to change the seal? Mine does not leak but I would probably just do it myself if the parts are under $100 and doesn't require any expensive special tools.
I wasn't referring to the reliability of the 3.6, I have owned several as well, but read through some of the problems people have had with the JT with the 3.6 around electrical issues related to the dual battery setup that take a lot of time and aggravation to resolve .
From what I have read here it doesn't seem any dealers are that familiar with the diesel and how to fix them, repairs are generally a nightmare diesel or gas. If you want the diesel get it.
Stuff is cheap on Amazon 3M Clear Paint Protection Bulk Film Roll 6-by-25-inches https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00B3IXSMA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_6BF05855YQN5C0XJ7YGD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I bought some a while back for another vehicle but never got around to installing it.
Wow, I have changed out LCAs on several Jeeps including the JT. If you do it with the Jeep on the wheels one at a time it is super simple and easy to bolt them in, just push the tire front or back to line up the second bolt hole.
If you live somewhere without road salt consider the Rancho 9000s or Bilstein 5100s I have had both and liked them but they both rust bad in the Northeast even when sprayed with something like Fluid Film.
I would not remove the hinges unless you plan on repainting the door, the doors are painted with the hinges on them effectively sealing the connection between the two.
Watch some videos on Youtube on chip repair, there are ways you can fill in the chips with touch up paint where you will not be able to tell, just technique and patience.
Agreed you just change the rear frame crossmember which is bolted in, there are hitches advertised on eBay that are just the receiver that somehow bolt to the non tow package rear crossmember, this is an example...
