  1. 392 Gladiator V8 Hemi confirmed by Jeep CEO!

I'm almost in the same boat. I did see a '72 sububurban that had a newer crate engine in it. $20k. Very, very tempting. I would rather dump $30k-$40k on a Chevelle instead of a new car that shuts down if some electrical gremlin crops up.
  2. 392 Gladiator V8 Hemi confirmed by Jeep CEO!

The Red Queen defense. The more everyone advances, the more everyone stays in the same place.
  3. What hand tools needed to work on Gladiator?

36mm and 1-1/16" T-25 8mm 10mm dead blow hammer pliers medium & large crescent wrenches (8" & 10") torque wrench breaking bar Pretty sure those are the tools I needed (in some variation) for the cam replacement. And the usual ratchets and extensions.
  4. Real Badge of Honors

Our JT has a nice bent bumper from a deer that unalived itself. Someday I'll put a new bumper on it.
  5. Possibly trading my 2020 JTR 3.6 for a 2021 JTRD

Here's a brand new JTR in petrol version, no leather or headliners: New 2025 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon For Sale $46,871 | Cars.com
  6. GMRS

Got one fixed for "range" (the 275) and a handful of... handhelds. A couple weeks ago, in the "backcountry," I was able to pickup the cleaning staff at Jenny Lake Lodge, a tick over 2mi away.
  7. 392 Gladiator V8 Hemi confirmed by Jeep CEO!

I couldn't recall what the D was "maxed" out at, but knew it was less than the Sport S M/T and Rubi/Moj flavors. Yeah, the D definitely got less attractive overall after the Obama-era fuel "crisis." Then made objectively worse by the emission standards (which a big portion ignore anyway). Today...
  8. 392 Gladiator V8 Hemi confirmed by Jeep CEO!

But aren't the JTD's limited in towing capacity to 5000#? So the only real gain is MPGs and "historically" longer engine life. I'd be happy with just the 5.7L.
  9. Another Cam bites the dust...

But never mind the giant display in the middle of the dash. That doesn't track anything. :lipssealed: And Anna Nicole married for love.
  10. Another Cam bites the dust...

That's what mine looks like; beige-colored cap on a hose. And my engine has never been touched by a dealership in my ownership tenure.
  11. Hitch roller (for wheelies)

Well. Damn. Here I spent $2500 on a lift and 37s and I could have just done this. Modern problems & modern solutions and all that.
  12. P0300 Code - New Cam Shaft?

Well... Christine was a Plymouth, so...
  13. P0300 Code - New Cam Shaft?

Any update? I actually ordered the kit myself and got it about a week after I ordered it instead of the estimated mid-August ship date.
  14. Loud ticking when engine running

Same. No noticeable difference between gas types. The only thing that has made a difference in MPG (other than weight) is altitude and flat land, like in Jackson, WY. Get 18mpg without much work.
  15. Cold start rough idle and sometimes 303 code

Nanny state of engine controls. The JT won't rev above that unless in drive. So you can't throw it into N at the light and rev the engine to frighten someone or bait into a race (there are a few vehicles slower than a JT ; and /s). "Oh look on my works (3.6l powering 37s) and despair."...
  16. Another Cam bites the dust...

I'm sure it's unlikely. But... :like: In other Jeep work, the adjustable front track bar I installed helped greatly reduce the 51-56mph shake (not death wobble) by a noticeable amount. Now it's just a mild vibration. I noticed some "sliding" wheel weights and some missing ones. I gotta take...
  17. Another Cam bites the dust...

I don't doubt that this issue has been around for a while since I've seen it when researching my cam failure. So, in the random thoughts I had, which you touch on here - why some engines last 100k miles before problems vs. the JTs proclivity to have the issue earlier than other applications...
  18. Another Cam bites the dust...

 My SIL has a 2012 Focus that had the transmission issue. The one that Ford basically said "it's a feature, not a bug" for Focus and Fiestas (a friend also had a Fiesta with the Amazing Shuddering Transmission). Yet go to any transmission shop and there were stacks of that transmission...
  19. Another Cam bites the dust...

From my initial research into the problem about a year ago, most issues (iirc) were around Cyl 1. I thought it akin to the history of the SBC where #3 is the "trouble" cylinder (again, iirc). Maybe Cyl 1 is the first one that trips the CEL. I've been pretty much radio silence on here, so I...
  20. Another Cam bites the dust...

The cam failure is A KNOWN ISSUE with the 3.6L. The cause, frequency, source of the failure, however, isn't known (at least publicly). All the anecdotal evidence provided here display that. Since the failures occur at any point in time, regardless of driving habits, locations, oil type...
