Have to move out of my house and into an apartment. I have to sell everything I own. Including all my tools. What tools should I keep so I can still work on my Gladiator? I have a huge harbor freight tool box filled to the brim with tools and I need to shrink that down into 2 3 drawer craftsman tool boxes. I'm assuming most of the metric tools. What specific sizes do I need? I know after just installing a Mopar lift kit that I need 15mm, 18mm, 21mm, 24mm wrenches and sockets. Torx wrenches and smaller size sockets. I do carry some tools in the truck as well. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I have NO IDEA what your personal situation is, that's your business, but if it was me, knowing the cost of buying tools again vs. the pittance you'll get out of used tools - is it possible to rent or borrow some storage space for them in case your situation changes in the future?

You, of course, can count out non-metric, but a lot will depend on what you plan on doing - headlight adjustments, bumper swaps, driveline work, interior work - all require slightly different things. Keep all Torx things if you can.

Too bad that says PA instead of IA or I'd offer some space in my locked garage - I'll be moving some antique engines out in the next month, there will be space there, DRY, out of the sun.
Then if in the future you saw no positive changes, you could have a long time to sell things off - or if things got better, retrieve it all.

Apartments here in Pa are outrageously expensive. I have to work 6 days a week and a ton of overtime to afford a place. On top of a large auto loan payments student loans and so on. So no room in the budget to rent a space to store tools or anything. It all must go.

Looking at your Fleet.. the US standards could be of use on the WJ. Seen many selling on Facebook so the market has multiple selections. Consider a strong water resistant tube or tote as you get the tool boxes sold; be good if they fit in several of your Fleet of vehicles.

36mm and 1-1/16"
T-25
8mm
10mm
dead blow hammer
pliers
medium & large crescent wrenches (8" & 10")
torque wrench
breaking bar

Pretty sure those are the tools I needed (in some variation) for the cam replacement.

And the usual ratchets and extensions.

Looking at your Fleet..
No fleet here. Just have the 2011 Grand Cherokee and the Gladiator. The Grand Cherokee will be up for sale soon. The rest of the jeeps in my sig have been sold long ago.

🤣 All of them……

What year is your gladdy and do you still have the factory warranty? That’ll help ya until the warranty runs out.

Murphy will dictate what your next breakage will be and it’ll involve ALL the tools that you plan to get rid of. You’ll be running to the hardware store to buy more tools. Been there done that!!

You know your tools better than anyone else. You should already know the FLUFF that you can get rid of. Be creative….. There are lots of places to store tools in that apartment. If you’re a single guy…. hide the tools everywhere!! Under the bed….. under the sinks. In the closets…. Build yourself a drop shelf /storage from the ceiling… Every inch of that apartment is fair game to store tools.

Unless of course…you’re a hoarder of tools and have enough to fill a single car garage?😂

I pretty much can fill a garage lol. I was a mechanic at a Jeep dealership. I still work on cars for work but I build police vehicles now. More electrical work than mechanical.

Sitting here trying to wrap my brain around how you were a mechanic at a Jeep dealership but are here asking us idiots what tools you should have to work on a Jeep.

Actually, now that I think about it...that explains a lot about our local service depts.

I can't even imagine picking out just a few wrenches or socket out of a set and tossing the rest. I also can't imagine someone wanting to buy a set or wrenches or sockets with the most commonly used ones missing. It's a tough decision, but selling a complete set will get more return. Then buy the individual tools that you need.

I came across this site from another forum for my Raptor. I heard they make all the OEM Tools are a great quality if you do choose to buy the set. I was just planning on using it put together my own tool kit to carry around with me instead of just having random tools.

That makes much sense.

Me - I find that when I think I have every tool needed for a job - you know the rest.
I have tools upstairs, LOTS of tools downstairs in the shop, tools in the garage, tools in the house........... Tools I've made, tools I use only once every 2 or 3 years but when I need 'em, I need 'em. I haven't used my 3/4" drive set yet this year, but if I have an axle seal leak on one of my cars, it will be a necessary tool to take the hub off the axle, as will the hub puller. I've not used the carrier bearing puller set yet this year - but it was priceless last time I used it.

Jeeps never need tools, they don't break.
