I agree with you. I’ve never seen disc brake pads that far away from the rotors. I suggest you have someone else step on the pedal while you watch the pads to see if they are squeezing the rotors.
my 2 cents about tonneau covers. I had a Bakflip MX4 on a previous truck and LOVED it. For the Gladiator, I went cheap and bought below from Amazon and I wouldn't recommend it. Cost about $600 (so I saved $400) but it is not water proof and the panel closest to the cab doesn't open so you don't...

This website has a chart for gearing and tire sizes. I assume it's good info but I'm no expert - first time Jeep owner. I did get max tow for the 4.10 gears hoping they will be enough for 33 or 35" tires.

I wouldn't dare say I'm deserving, but the stars aligned and I found a Max Tow in the Dallas area. Otherwise its all Rubis and WIllys down here. All have the Tow package, but not Max Tow.
