This is my current state of the Coverking installation - https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/coverking-topliner-review-install.53330/post-1080553
Iām ātransitioningā from the Mopar to the Coverking. If you decide to go Mopar, Iāll have one for sale as soon as I can time the install of the rear section with the weather and my schedule. Though being in Louisiana may make things difficult.
Manufacturers have many many many professionals involved in the statistical analysis of such failures and likelihood of future failures. The same actuaries who predict human life spans do the same work for warranties and other insurance policies. They know they will make money over time. If...
There is a L O T of good to be had in a twin turbocharged V8 in an SUV. The only thing I really miss from my prior ride is the absolutely effortless acceleration at any given speed. There was no work to squeeze almost 600hp out.
Having recently taken a ride in a JL 392 Iām looking forward to a...
One other gem I discovered during the swap was that when the fairlead was installed with the winch, they bolted it straight to the bumper BEFORE putting the bumper on. This put two large grade 8.8 M12 nuts between the steel bumper skin and the stout winch plate. This kept the bumper from seating...
You are far far far more patient than me. I tried for a while but decided to just cut them off since I was not making any real progress and was scratching the bumper (only of concern to me was the potential corrosion). If Iād known in advance and for the cost Iād order 8 new ones, cut the old...
To say my wife is skeptical of my mods is a monumental understatement. However, she rode in the JT for the first time today and almost immediately commented on how much quieter it is in the cabin and how she doesnāt have to shout to be heard. Iām looking forward to doing the rest of the hardtop...
Probably not. You are going to need something that is extremely flat to avoid throwing off the dimensions and spacing for the bumper as it goes to the frame horns. I would suggest getting the flat nuts in the previous comment off of Amazon. There are also options through Mopar.
There are eight of these assembly nuts. They are pressed on at the factory and have to be cut off. And frankly Iād like to have had eight to put back in since I think it would make alignment much easier when putting the bumper back on.
I finally got enough decent weather to do the freedom panel liners. I started a couple days ago with the butyl rubber / foil liners. The first step was to pull the Mopar liners and the associated Velcro. I then wiped down the fiberglass with the denatured alcohol (Probably overkill but just...
Agreed. Instructions are non-existent and the video is pretty marginal in its usefulness. Iām still working on getting the sound deadener installed. Got both of the removable panels covered but havenāt yet tackled the big portion of the roof. Was going to do that today but got sidetracked on...
Pulled front steel bumper, rerouted the very poorly installed wiring for my winch, partial install of the new Hella LED bumper lights, and swapped the proper orange Mojave hooks in place of the red rubicon hooks. The work to swap the hooks was a bitch. And after everything in and tightened...
Given how thin the tape for adhering the liner is, I'm pretty comfortable with the conceptual use of spray adhesive. I bought a fresh can today and plan to spray it on both the top and the fabric liner, let it tack up, then press and roll it into place. If my sound deadener ever shows up I...
So the Mercedes mirrors breakaway function is built into the sheetmetal of the roof so that is probably a dead end. Disappointing since the Mercedes mirrors have the ambient lighting built into them.
I went down a rabbit hole last night looking at rear view mirrors on eBay that might be convertible to the JT. Iāve got some good prospects but every one I found, even ones from FCA, all have a different breakaway mount than the JT. The JTās spring clip is mounted to the windshield frame with...
Has anyone considered using spray adhesive to hold the headliner in place rather than the adhesive strips? Iāve been contemplating that while I continue waiting for my delayed sound deadening material. Why wouldnāt spray adhesive be superior to the double-sided tape? Am I missing something on this?
Most employers are short employees much less ones who purportedly can turn a wrench. @jac04 ās point is completely on target as well. The dealership is going to get a ton of shaft from FCA for the skipped steps. I think Iād be looking for a new dealership or service department.
