Agreed on that, I like the sound of a V8, I've missed it since I got rid of the Mustang back in 2013, those Coyote engines are fun. If they don't have a V8 option when my lease is up, I might consider a swap, can always throw a supercharger on the 5.7 too lol. I'd just rather tow with an NA V8...
The current output for the Ram 1500 5.7 is 395hp/410 lb-ft so 45 more hp but 30 less lb-ft on the torque side with a boosted V6. With the 5.7 you aren't adding intercoolers and excess heat from increased compression. Even at 5psi thats a bit of extra wear on the 3.6.
I leased mine because I knew that at least the diesel was coming out. If reliability ends up decent on the diesel, or they add a V8 to the lineup by the time my lease is up mine will probably get turned back in.
All mods will be minor or reversible.

This is where I'm at with the Gladiator at the moment. I like the idea of the diesel for the added torque and ease of towing vs the 3.6, but the complexity of the exhaust is a downside. I leased mine, and still have a few years on it so I can see what's out then, but I would be really happy if...
I hate the way everything is packaged on these. I understand why, it gets you to buy crap you don't want to get the stuff you do want, but if I could get a bare bones Sport with a diesel and the Mojave suspension and frame upgrades it would be perfect. Give me a soft top with LED lights and I'm set.
Anyone else notice the price jump before build and price on the website? Shows Sport S starting at 39,900 now. Is that tied to the model year update maybe?
Thanks for the quick response, just thought it was weird since they made a somewhat big deal about moving the diesel alternator to the top on Wrangler and Gladiator. Might have been a clearance issue with the diesel though.
I'm curious on how the alternator relocation affects fording depth. I keep going back and forth between FI the 3.6 or the diesel, and while I don't plan on doing a lot of deep water crossings it is nice to know that I can if I need to.
Good to hear they are back, by the time my current Gladiator lease is up I'm certain I will ready for more torque. The Gladiator is by far my favorite vehicle, but the low end feels awful with the 3.6
Living in California is the reason I've decided I'm not waiting for the diesel. Even if they don't outright ban it other than commercial use in the near future I can see them taxing the crap out of it since they got the gas tax bill passed last year and it no longer needs to go on the ballot.
I just did a 4 year lease on a Sport S Gladiator, I figure by the time the lease is up we will see how the ecodiesel has faired and if they will be putting it in the Mojave or not as that would be an almost perfect vehicle for me straight off the lot.
I just got my Gladiator a few days ago, Sport S and dealer put Rubicon tires on. Noticed on the way to work that I sit at just over 2k rpm at 65mph. Checked what gear it was in and was riding in 7th for the 16 mile highway drive. Once I got on a country road and set to 55 it dropped into 8th...
Towing and offroad range are the obstacles that Tesla, Rivian, and Bolinger are going to have to struggle with. TFLTrucks tested a model X with a couple different trailers and it cut the range by almost 2/3s.
I am honestly planning to go Sport with 2 options. Max tow and aux switches. Wasn't sold on the switches till I used one to wire up heated seats in my wife's JLU because it didn't have cold weather package. Made it super easy and you can latch them to come on at startup.
My wife's Wrangler came with the 5" uconnect, so no nav was a reason for me to look aftermarket. While waiting in Insaneaudio.com to release their JL specific model I have noticed the factory unit doesn't even keep time properly.
The JL3001 from Insane runs it's own Android software, so it will...
I like the Rivian better if looking at full electric. 14 inches ground clearance and over 30 inches fording depth. With Ford and Amazon being big investors I want to see where it ends up.
