This is an after the fact question/suggestion. And I'm hoping you got it figured out because it sounds like it's giving you hell. But I'm curious as to why you didn't go with aftermarket switches?
Why don't you just install aftermarket switches from one of the many manufacturers like Voswitch and Lasfit? And you don't have to be bothered with the PCM. The Lasfit switches look like stock as well. And the install is a lot simpler.
Looking at the pics from the link, it doesn't look all that compact. Maybe it's the picture. But like @ToJTornottoJT mentioned, Ram has had a compact truck around for years.
I spotted this one in San Antonio about a year and a half ago..
I have a suggestion for anyone looking for a rear window alternative. I didn't break my glass nor was it leaking. But I replaced it anyway because I wanted more open window. So, I replaced it with a Breezer windows removable rear window. I like it, it doesn't leak, and it's removable. Had it on...
Yea. I can definitely tell a slight difference. But the good thing is that it's not a complicated or all day installation and it can't hurt, damage, or make the steering worse. Lol
My video:
I like it. Like I said, I wasn't really having an issue. But I wasted to try it out to see if it mattered. It tightened my steering a little bit. I know my Jeep, so I can tell when there is a difference of the response of the steering and it's driving ability.
And, unlike the other brands...
The first thing you should always do (even on factory equipment) is check everything for proper torque. I did a video over two years ago on the pitman arm nut not being proper torque causing wandering issues. And that was immediately after the aluminum to steel gearbox swap. Also, factory...
I installed the Lasfit switches about 6 months ago. I Only installed the left bank (Locker) switches because my Jeep came with the right bank (4 aux switches). One of the things that I like is that you don't have to be bothered with uconnect. When I'm connecting aftermarket electronics, I like...
You need to either use a OBD scanner like Jscan or take it to a shop. That may not necessarily be a transmission issue. On pretty much all vehicles after 96, all of the systems work together throught the computer (PCM). You may have an overheating, oil, etc. issue that would tell the...
I see a lot of folks asking about bedcovers that will work with their bed racks. I came up with a cheap fix that may help a few people. I did it to mine a few years ago and it's been working for me. Hopefully there is someone out there that it may help as well.
This will only work with the...
I know right! It's like Toyota quickly patented it and anything related to it. I've had the breezer window in my hardtop since last year window which is removable, but having it able to retract up and down like the Tacoma would be awesome!
I actually like that. I built both of my racks when I had them. Built a full size and then built a mid/half rack. Mine was more like yours. It leaves a lot of space open on the sides and rear to access stuff in the bed. And yours looks pretty decent as well.
Thank you! Remember, the end goal is to go camping, not overlanding. You don't have to spend your life's savings to do it. Do research and find the basics of what you need and go out and enjoy life and the outdoors.
Time and life is precious!?
If a rack is going to be the route you take, go half/mid height rack. I started out with a full rack about three years ago. I went to a half rack about a year and a half after. Night and day. I didn't even know the full rack had that much wind resistance until I went to the half rack and it...
The OP has definitely put a lot of thought into what is a great option. I think it's awesome!
I know that you are looking for take off axles, but I'd like to add another option for you if you have Non_rubicon axles and want to add aftermarket Eaton lockers. You can use the Lasfit locker switch...
