Pretty well. I've hauled furniture across the state with the tailgate down, picked up lumber, and hauled two refrigerators in the upright position. Also moved (i.e., house to house belongings and furniture/appliance) for a couple people with the tailgate down.

The dome light and the lights behind the seats are not part of the hard top. I think the only wiring running to the hardtop is for the rear window defroster, but I'll double-check the connection just to be sure. Thanks for looking out.

You should be fine. I'm 6'1". The tents are designed to use the tailgate for added length.
