I know what they are. I have carried Bambi buckets in countries all over the planet.
Funny story. During that Haiti invasion thing, whatever you call it. I was tasked to carry a bambi bucket to drop water on crowds of people. I guess that was in lieu of shooting them. Ever see 1,700 gallons of...
Nice! I have seen that.
I was a NightStalker at Campbell then served in 7-101 as SIP for B-company, and later A-company and the battalion. By the time you were flying, I was likely flying for some other peeps in the Stan or Iraq.
During the third night of the Panama invasion, I was tasked with...
I flew hundreds of them. Campbell, Korea, Alaska, Boeing plant...
Bambi bucket?
Those beasts can lift a lot! I won't say the max weight I ever flew one, but it was far, far over 50K! Ours had aerial refueling.I could watch the sun set then rise again without ever getting out of the seat...
Update: I now own a Glue tread kit
The Hemi swap work has still not started. The lead mechanic had a death in the family and is out of state for at least another week. I completely understand and am a patient man.
That's impressive!
And real-world experience.
So, I have wanted to delete the spare, but it just seems odd, for lack of a better word, not to have one. But when getting to the huge tire sizes, carrying a 130-pound spare that gobbles up precious space becomes a real factor.
I ordered that glue...
I feel pretty strongly based on the math that the 5.13 with a 40" tire should be good at highway speeds, the 40's will roll over obstacles mo-betterer. and the 6.4 with that crazy-good torque curve will work everywhere.
Besides, 40's are cheaper, starts me off with a zero-mile set of rubber, and...
Oh yes, I know about that shop. That price is for the "kit" only and not installation. Makes sense and places that swap, if they do it, very competitively in the lineup.
Well, welcome to the Jeep world and Jeep-Postin'!
Seems to run parallel to buying Jeep parts...
FW or RW, or both?
If you tap the link to my build thread and go back a few thousand posts, I detail (with pictures so aviators will understand) how I built mine. I did have to make a reinforcement...
Getting back to that tailgate spare tire mount. I received the following response from them:
Is Wilco Offroad made in America? All Wilco manufacturing occurs in Burnet Texas or within neighboring counties. All steel is made in the USA.
what gauge/thickness is the steel? Adapter bars are...
I was up in Kirkuk, Iraq for five months. I drove a Toyota Land Cruiser that was up-armored and had a straight-6 diesel engine and a manual 5-speed. That thing was a total pig, but as reliable as a sunrise. I got the locals at a service shop to lift it and put Bilstein shocks all around. Not...
Getting the diesel back wouldn't be all that difficult (For a government $$$$ contract) The mil-spec diesel would likely be very different without DPF, DEF, and a cat. It may well have mechanical fuel injection since the fragile common rail electronics wouldn't play well with EMP.
I wonder where that was? I spent years in Afghanistan and was in and out of many FOBs, but never saw that. No doubt it was there, but I missed it.
Note the two jammer antennas on the rear. I'm guessing it did convoy escort duty.
If the T-ban got their hands on it, it's very likely totaled by...
Heck, no one alive today in procurement had even been born when the M715 was thought of!
I actually drove one of those things in Germany. Was in my earliest days when I was a Tanker (Before my flying days). It had 5.38 gears and this weird overhead cam in line 6-cyl. I think it had a top speed...
Holy Crap...A couple questions??? ;-)
hello just a couple of questions. is it made in America? they refer to TX but not manufacturing there. Don't know, but they say it is built in Texas what gauge/thickness is the steel? I believe they said .188 wall on some of it, 3/16 on some, the...
I thought about going without a spare before. I believe I even floated the idea on this forum, where I was hammered for thinking such a thing.
But with flats, those who have and those who will...
That repair kit is interesting, for sure. I have cut a sidewall, debeaded (a bunch). and had a...
Those are all great ideas.
I had initially dismissed the idea of mounting 130+ pounds up high. It would move the roll center upward, which would make it handle a bit worse on the road and a bit tippy on slopes.
Funny, but I never considered hanging the spare beneath the rack...hmmm...
