While speaking to my local dealer, he told me that thru USAA one can get as low as 2.9% financing. Here are the specs:

-Needs to be a new car
-Open a checking account with them to pay the loan ( can be auto deducted from what i understand)
-use their car buying service

I have been a member using the insurance for a number of years and not had an issue, both home and auto. My father has used the car buying option twice and gotten better deals than he could find (and he is cheap).

Just an option. I did look at the USAA website and confirmed it. I am not affiliated in any other way with USAA and had have no financial or personal gain from this. Just trying to give you guys options...lord knows after taxes, I will need them!

Yes, USAA is very good, but you need to be Active Duty Military, Veteran, or family member.

Do you know with their car buying service, are you negotiating with them or with the dealership? If I can just go through them to get financing on a deal I already negotiated, thinking that's 7% below invoice from Travis in North Carolina, then that's fine. But if they're car buying service means going for their quoted cost, I'd be saving money getting a slightly higher interest rate but paying less on the truck

Phantom, Im not 100% clear on that. I am still probably a couple months away from purchase so I have not contacted them to see what the exact process is. I will be researching a bit more later as I will probably need all the options I can get. I too have been playing with the numbers to see which is a better deal as far as total price and interest rates go. May have to contact some of the guys on here like Travis about price and rates they get.

Stupid question and maybe a little off topic but I’ve seen the ads for USAA and as you said “need to be active duty, veteran OR FAMILY MEMBER “ I never served but my dad was navy vet. Is USAA available to people like myself ??

I believe you need to use their car buying service to identify dealerships. From there you could negotiate with one of the dealerships down, not necessarily stick with their original quote. As long as you use one of the dealerships that provided a quote you would get the discount.

They will give you the price. Only good in those cases where ADM is a factor. Otherwise, you can get much better deals

Your dad would have to be a member at USAA in order for him to “pass” eligibility on to you.

Yes, my Children are members as well. I just needed to go in and add them, it is very simple.

Their service is Truecar.com, the only issue is that in Amarillo no one is a true car dealer so if I stay here I cannot get the %.50 discount rate.

Whitepanther, yes you can be a member but I'm pretty sure that your dad may have to have been a member first. You will need his DOB/SS# and such.

Got the wife to approve of the Gladiator, 1st and maybe hardest obstacle to overcome!
