Navy credit union was advertising 1.9% on new vehicles...
Their site is showing 2.99% but that is only up to 36mo. 60mo is 3.69%.
Pentagon Federal is usually another good CU to use and you can get qualified for membership by joining a foundation of some kind.

I normally use InTouch CU (formerly EDS CU) in Plano, TX. They are always competitive.

Wow, huge dissapointment! I called USAA to ask them about how the car buying service works Andy the guy literally had no information other than to tell me that Trucar does the care buying for them and I should call them.

I’m a member and used their car buying service for my 2018 Wrangler and my wife’s 2019 Volvo XC90.

Not sure about all membership details as I’m active duty, but my kids are members and I just needed to add them.

As for the car buying service here’s how it works.
You log on to the USAA website and search for a new car. You can configure your exact options as well. Then you get to a point where you have to submit your contact info before you can get pricing. Once you do that it will poll all the local dealers to send you their truecar pricing and in turn your contact info gets sent to them, so be prepared to be spammed and hounded on the phone. Funny story here. I hated getting all the phone calls so I put in a different number then mine. A few days later I get an email from this guy explaining that he’s aware I’m trying to buy a car and to please stop using his wife’s number on my requests for pricing. I totally didn’t realize the number I used was an active number. Duh!

Now, you don’t have to buy at the truecar price that’s sent. You can roll in a negotiate a better deal, but at least the truecar price gives you a good starting price. Plus it will show you what the processing fees are and include most rebates as well.

Also to take advantage of the discount rate by using this service you don’t need to pay the true car price. As long as you buy from a dealer that was identified and sent you a price USAA will know that when the loan is funded and adjust your rate accordingly.

USAA provides you a funding document you just hand to dealer and they complete it. In a few days USAA will send you a notice stating your new loan is active. Due dates for the payment are pretty flexible too. I don’t think you can go 60 days out, but you scan choose any date before 45 days.

I’ll try to post some screenshots as well.

I’ve used USAA’s purchasing service three times. The first was before they had the partnership with TrueCar. I got a pretty damn good price on a Mercedes GLK for my wife. The next time, after the partnership with TrueCar, was for purchasing a Jaguar F-Pace. It was a real PITA for me with all the damn phone calls. I was also able to easily beat their price by just over $3000. I also looked at it when I was trying to get my JLU last year. They never came in below invoice.

The thing about TrueCar is that they are PAID by dealers. How good can they be for the consumer in that situation.
