Lahaina Hi

I brought my car into the dealer to discuss the loud whining coming off the rear end of the car and they told me they have to replace the complete rear end. Under Warrantee thanks!

However I have been waiting over a month to get the differential piece. They have the axles and parts but no housing!!! ARG!!

Totally sucks and I cannot see any recourse except hurraying up and waiting .....

Anyone else have issues like this with the rear end?

That doesn't make sense. Why would they have some parts then. If its a bad rear end I'd think they'd replace it as assembled not order all the individual parts.
I agree, most dealerships do not like doing axle work on a piecemeal basis and like to change it out as a whole assembly. Especially if warranty work.

I just checked and they state it's the axles and they are replacing rear both axles and housing which for the money (about $5,500) I would think they would swap it out!!

A buddy of miming did on his JL sport last year. May have taken a week or so. He got a whole axle assembly.

How many miles did you have on it?

Something isn't adding up.

Whining from the rear axle is usually the ring and pinion or bearings.

Axle shafts do not whine when they are bad. Bad axle shafts usually do not damage the housing. Axle shafts and an empty housing do not cost $5,500.

In your first post, you said they told you they have to replace the entire rear end. So they are changing that stance?

My buddy was in that ballpark. It started as an on and off pulse then got worse.

I think it had to do with the set up, slight bend in the tubes or something like that. I don’t think the lift or tire size had a thing to do with it.

Ran out to my car and grabbed the paperwork. This was ordered one October 20!!! Albeit during the strike ....

They confirmed "noise is coming from Rear Differential - recommend replacing differential"

Next note stated they ordered:

2 Each 1025749 Shafts
1 Each 68474259AA Axle

Who knows what the hell I will end up with!! Except the time frame is killing me so far!! Over 2 months!!

Thank you all for your support and notes. Greatly appreciated.

Looking up that Axle part number, you may actually get one already setup with a ring and pinion gear and diff carrier already in it.

It is possible they are saving on transferring over your brake and caliper assemblies that would come on a complete axle setup.
