Both of the rear shocks on my new Mojave had leaks. One was more of a weep, but I could see it. Either way, I believe it came from the factory that way and guessing it was nothing more than a couple pinched O-rings. I noticed it when I got it home, but thought it was just some shipping lube — cleaned it off and it came back the next day. Darn…
…but Jeep replaced both today. I’m happy about that, and the new ones seem fine so far. I only have 400 miles on my rig, and explained that I needed it replaced right away (and they made it happen).
Note, it appears there is a national shortage on these shocks. They initially told me “August”. I happened to know they had a new Mojave that was down, and they used those donor parts on mine. That ”donor Mojave” was actually the first one I drove but noticed the steering column controls were not working, They couldn’t figure it out, so there it sits…silver lining. I bought my Mojave last Friday, so not even a week old!
I had them inspect the front units too, and they are fine.
Anyhow, I’m very happy with my new Gladiator and not too put off by the leaking shocks. This type of thing happens with rebuildable high performance shocks, but I’m curious if this is more common lately (I had King bypass shocks with remote reservoirs on my JK and it eventually weeped a bit). My dealer said they have seen this issue only one other time. Maybe a bad batch? Anyone else have a similar story? I was there when my Mojave came off the transport truck so nobody else drove it, and I don’t think there is anything fishy here.
