Ok to be fair the 3" mirrors are 3 bucks each, but the hardware was like 10 more bucks per side. Anyway,
My goal was to add a convex mirror at the top of the A-pillar to function both as a blind spot monitor, but also as a side mirror when I take the doors off.
So the bolt for the handle is an M6-1.0 with quite a few threads and a decent flat washer. I replaced that with a longer bolt and bushing to hold my bracket. Here's the bracket before...
And after some adjustments, it looks like this:
Now collect these fastener bits from your glass jar of random hardware (or go to the hardware store) and stack it all together:
The two big washers are 1/4 x 1", to sandwich the bracket better. 1" diameter is the max washer size that fits in the a pillar handle. The other M6 washers are for load distribution, not for height. Approximately duplicating the stock washer size for where it actually contacts the handle to secure it.
Then you just bolt it up:
Now paste on your 3 dollar mirror!
Note in this picture the door is closed, so I can leave it on permanently. Also notice the visible coverage beside the vehicle is pretty great! So I will run them as legal side mirrors when the doors are off.
Obviously you can see I like convex mirrors: I also have a little 2" installed in the corner of each side mirror to allow me to see where the rear tires are rolling next to sharp rocks or ledges, etc.
The M6x1.0 bolt and the bushing have specific lengths.... Will edit in a couple days after I can double check for sure.
