A little bit of WV

A couple shots from my last trip over the weekend. Lots of gorgeous views, few hundred miles of back roads and good food. Oh and idk if the guy I saved in that ditch is in this forum. I didn’t get his name either. He and his family got ran off the trail by a careless rav4. Who left the scene. Took a couple hours to get him back out but the vehicle was unscathed. 3 wranglers had tried before I got there and they decided to call a tow truck. The tow truck struggled for an hour as everyone kept trying to pull him sideways through the bank. I finally got fed up and told them to stop before they tweaked the frame. There were people backed up on both sides of the trail and this wasn’t getting anywhere. Using the tow truck to brace I pulled him forward to the edge. And then switched to a strap and gave it the beans. Apparently it was so awesome my buddy stopped taking pics . Anyway also a quick reminder for those, the emergency neutral is behind a little snap out panel in front of the shifter. Everyone else was trying to pull him in park because the truck locked him out. And he couldn’t move the T case either. It was actually a pretty simple recovery and required a little common sense or some experience I guess. One of the wranglers smoked his freshly rebuilt warn winch in his attempt. Remember stop and think before you act. Trying to be the first guy out with his winch hooked up and no plan because you want the “Save” is how you break your own stuff. Despite this mini multi hour roadblock and the 2 constant overheating 4Runners I was wheeling with. The trip was great.

Good time to remember snatch blocks and pulleys aren't just for doubling down a line to increase effective pulling power. They can also be used to keep the recovery vehicle aligned in the safest direction while making a difficult grab.

They were all using snatch blocks but as the primary pull when it was only needed as a brace.

Lunch, dinner and breakfast twice. I was with my crew for a couple days. We took only light trails and views cus we had wives and kids in tow for some. I’m usually designated cook. Last trip menu was French Toast, eggs and bacon, Tonkotsu Ramen, pork meat balls, green pinion and egg, then local butcher beef burgers. All doable on a double burner Coleman.
