Pulled the trigger and ordered my topper from A.R.E. through a local dealer. In reading threads and posting from others I kept seeing the same things. The paint code was the topic. No not the paint code for the color of your rig. It was the color for the topper itself. Background is if you want it the same color as your ride just give them the ”paint code” on body ID tag. Duh. Simple enough. Want the rugged bed liner finish then you’re looking at the OTR option. Again simple, easy, straight forward. Well for those who want the topper to match the fiberglass roof, matte/satin black, it’s an experience I’ll never forget. Before I ordered it I called the dealer. Discussed all the options. He said “yea ya get free carpet liner through the end of the year with CX.” Perfect. Told him I wanted the color to match the roof and he said, “we will have to get the paint code.” I told him the only thing anybody has gotten when ordering this was “special.” He said “ya it was special order and the code is still needed.“ Ok no problem. Searched and looked all over. Couldn’t find anything. Well a week passed and I though might as well go to the horses mouth. Dialed up A.R.E customer service and they answered. Told them what I was looking for and then brought up the paint code dilemma. I said “ I‘m looking for the special paint code for the matte/satin roof finish you offer.” Gal on the phone said “ohh sure no problem, the code is special.” I said “yes indeed it is special, been quiet the project trying to find it.“ She said “yes and the code is special.” I said “well can I have the code.” And then the light shined down from above … she said “ The code is S P E C I A L “……….. I started laughing and said “you mean to tell me the code IS special? And she said ”yes indeed it is special.” So there you have it. A little “who’s on first” reenactment for those of you who know what that is.
. I’m still laughing about it.
