I figure mine the old fashioned way, by hand. Yes, the fuel economy on the display is usually higher. All but one of mine when new the speedometer showed about 2 mph faster than you were actually going....and conversely traveling more than you actually did.
After reprogramming for actually tire size and diameter it is really close. I checked all of mine on radar and mph and dead on. Fuel economy almost as well.
