Michigan here. Like most midwest states, we think we have the worst roads and use more salt than any other state. My JT is in the middle of its fifth Michigan winter, with 80k miles on it, and frankly the rust isn't as bad as I would have expected. Most the areas that have not been scraped off road, or are not directly in the path of any gravel bombardment are relatively rust free considering what it has been exposed to. YMMV.

I typically give it a wash including underneath at least once during the winter, and then a good wash, focusing on the underbody in the spring, and ensuring I spray inside the frame as much as I can.

From someone from sunny SoCal, please educate me on why a Jeep owner would ask "Am I stupid to Keep in garage?". This is an honest question and I'm not being a smart-ass.

To me the answer would be, of course keep it in the garage. It's secure and it's stored in a weather-free environment. If you want to take it out, shovel out the driveway. My sister and brother-in-law live in Idaho and send me photos of this almost daily, LOL.

What am I missing?

If you want to take it out, shovel out the driveway.
You may not know how hard that can be or how many hours that would take.
Hard to move tons of snow, some of it 3+ feet deep, with a shovel.
So.........
best to let the Jeep shovel out the driveway.

Late to the show here but love keeping it in the garage. I can leave my freedom panels off or top down. I don’t have to put it back together each night because it may rain or whatever.

It’s also secured and just one more layer to prevent theft.

It’s also generally warmer in my garage and if you do get snow I’d rather clean a driveway with a snow blower than wipe off my car, move it then snow low the driveway.
