Yes you do to remove the forward facing air intake. After 5 years I notice the snorkel is cracking around the mounting bolts so has lost its integrity. The plastic quality may not be quite up to RR standards.
To me after 5 years, I'd rather pay for another cheaper once again vs spending the $900 on the Rugged Ridge snorkel.

Yeah maybe. In the musician world we have a saying "buy once, cry once". You know, it means, if you can, buy the best thing you can and go for the quality. But sometimes for some things going cheap and disposable is the better option.

Use UV compliant and plastic/rubber compliant paint, even black. This will help fight cracking overtime. Generally though, aerosol paints are NOT plastic/rubber friendly and will deteriorate them even faster.

But for $100ish, I might see what I can work up!
You can use that flex seal type stuff on it too. It’s fairly UV stable for a while. When it starts to fade just peel it and put another coat on. It’s a For Da Bull.

I am GOING FOR IT! Loool I'll let you all know how it fits
I didn't get that exact same brand, but it was about $100 on Amazon. You can see it installed in my profile pic and other newer pics I have posted. Fit perfectly, followed the RR AmFib instructions. It even had the inner hard plastic reinforcements riveted into the ends of the plastic internal tube. I'm pretty sure you won't get the drain tube components and the plastic plugs to seal up the holes in your air box, but I installed a ball-float scupper valve on the bottom of my air box, and just used some standard Xmas tree plugs. Has worked fine so far, no water in air box from rain, but I have run a mushroom style head since I installed it, so not sure if you use the included ram-scoop style one.

Having said that, I just ordered an ARB style safari snorkel I'm going to replace it with. Having to disconnect the hose sections to get to the fuse box has become a pain in the butt, especially when you're doing a bunch of electrical / light mods. Not thrilled about the cutting a notch in my hood part, but as they said in Dune: "Fear is the mind killer.' The new snorkel has a 4" inlet vs the 3" inlet of the AmFib style too. May get the Sy-Klone precleaner head for it, if I can stand to pony up more money than the snorkel itself cost.

That’s why I like this style snorkel. No cutting. I’ve drilled holes I a Jeep tub before but it was not easily mentally. Took a couple brews and a lot of looking at a Jeep tub before we said, “Screw it”.

Zero reviews on it, probably won’t fit right, and you will probably never actually need it. GO FOR IT!
This dude hasn't been here in over a year, but want to quote him anyway.

This is the kind of knee jerk, empty headed, platitude response, buy once cry once, get what you pay for, inevitably by someone who hasn't bought at all, never will, but just knows the answer nonetheless.

Ignore the half dozen folks having no real issues with it, just spit out the same old tired excuses. Everyone knows that no one ever spends less than the maximum amount possible on everything all the time.
