Amazon step rails

Hello everyone, I purchased my gladiator in April and I bought some step rails from Amazon as my first mod. They came in today and as I unboxed them, I noticed that they both rubbed together in the packaging. They rubbed through the powder coating so much that there is bare metal showing.
I have not dealt with damaged powder coated items before. I’m wondering if I should just return them (a total PITA) or just keep them and cover the marks with black paint. Both marks are about 1/2”in size. Will covering them with paint work to prevent rust or is there a fix for powder coating that will last a while? If anybody has any input, feel free to share.

If you send back and reorder, most likely you will get another set with the same. These are going to be scratched up while wheeling. Just touch them up and enjoying, repeat!

That's not too bad, easiest fix is a black magic marker

I pretty much feel the same way as you both do. My wife has me second guessing myself.

I'll make the suggestion to use what I use to touch up the wife's curb rash on black rims.

Tell her to let you use some of her clear nail polish! It’s a great temporary fix for powder coat scratches……get the black on the initial coat then polish over(clear polish)! It’ll last long enough til you scratch them enough on the trails to not notice it.

I would notify the MFG and let them know you received them with paint damage. Who knows, maybe they will give you a partial refund so you can get some quality paint.
