Any chance of making it truly tool-less? How many even carry coins, and I don't like reaching into a pocket to dig out the house key - I love the knob-type like the stock MOPAR mount.

I did mount balls into the threaded holes earlier, and found that it's the most-vibration-free mount due to the rail not twisting and flexing over road imperfections. My snow plow control holder will vibrate a lot if the control isn't in it. I did some figuring and testing, and found that's because using the edges allows the mount rail to twist a bit, while the ball in the hole does not. Same exact mount, just mounted or attached to the rail differently. If you go into the center with something that clamps on the edges, mine vibrates, but if I use a ball that mounts through the center, the exact same accessory will not vibrate. That's one reason I chose the ball firmly attached through the center on mine - reduces vibrations.
For truly vibration-free, I have to use the balls that mount either in the holes or through the middle of the rail. My experimenting over the months has demonstrated this in my case.

But that aside - I consider anything that uses a key or coin to still actually be a tool type.

This is TRULY tool-free! No trying to find a coin no one carries any more, and no digging keys out of my pocket. I can adjust it while at a stop light.

Yes 100% I agree with you. We'll get on it. . We actually have a different model that we're pushing across the finish line. Can I send you a demo to test? I'll also send over a controller adapter for the Western Plow controller. It will work the same as what you have but just looks a bit cleaner.

PERFECT! That is a really cool option.

I'm all for options - and that's one reason I did so much testing with the rail, and ordered so many ball mounts to try to adapt to it. Trying to make it simple, and secure.
(one mount I really boo-boo'ed when I ordered it and will be giving those away as they aren't even close to this type of rail but some member here can use the stuff. It wasn't worth the hassle of sending it back, will be easier just to mail it to someone)

At some point, I'll want to find something where my wife can just slip her phone into instead of in the slot in front of the passenger air bag area or in the cup holders. She can't maneuver a normal spring loaded mount or one that requires putting the phone in and then using something like a thumb screw to hold the phone in place - she has no thumbs.
In her JLU she has a WeatherTech cup holder phone mount, but when she's with me, she's got no place to put her phone.

Here's another reason I hate having to use tools near the dash. It's a bit under control now, but I have bad "essential tremor". When I was mounting the rail on the dash I was dumb - using an Allen wrench instead of a larger bit on a 1/4" ratchet. My shaky hands dropped that wrench and it slid - yeah, right into the defrost duct and down. If I had tried to do that on purpose, it would have never made the corner and gone down in. But there's now a small Allen wrench down in the HVAC duct forever.
So anything that doesn't require small tools above the dash - I'm for.

100% Tools are out! lol

You can shoot me a message with your address and I'll get you a care pack.

As far as holders we have similar models that don't have a twist screw, but require very little spring tension to get the phone in and out. I'll throw one of those in there that you can hookup to the rail. I'd be eager to get your feedback.

It appears that the piece you show for the Western plow control - or one like it - could work for microphone holders for those with various radios..............

Does anyone make an adjustable length arm? Would be nice as maybe you change accessories, want something close one day, then out of the way or farther away another, there's been a few times the shorter arms I have - I wish they had been a bit longer, but then, the option is a full 1.5" jump, no adjusting depending on the angle the arm sits at and so on. a 2" arm is short by the time you swing it to an angle, a longer arm is too long when pointing straight out.

Would a Quad Lock magnetic mount be something that would work?
Quad Lock
She would need one of their phone cases that works with their magnetic mounts.
Cases
You would need the magnetic head and the ball mount depending on what size the arms you are using need.
Magnetic Head
Ball Mount
I'm using the lever style mount (not the magnetic one) to hold an iPad mini on our dash mounting rail.

She's got a flip 4............. doesn't do the heavy cases, and prefers a case with a ring on the back to help her hold the phone (no thumbs so can't hold a phone like the rest of us. Best if she can just slip it into and out of something.
She loves the cup phone thing I got her years ago for Christmas as it can just slide in and out.

Sometimes I wonder if some of these companies can get any sort of tax credit or help for creating adaptive equipment, but it seems this country has forgotten a large segment of the population and doesn't care of standard things don't work. So different from what it was years ago where people and companies tried hard to make things work out.
Everything from phones to cars to computers to home appliances are for right handed people with all 8 fingers and 2 thumbs and screw it, tough crap if you can't use the stuff.
Taking pictures, it's a good thing phones detect directions as she has to hold it upside down to take pics - the damned button is always on the right end.

I'm all about options too, which is why I have stuck with the Ram Mount style 1" ball on everything. Bulletpoint makes a ball that clamps onto the grab handle (2024+ is different than 2023-). They offer in in both their 20mm ball and standard 1"/25mm ball. From there you should be able to find a phone holder that works for her. Hell, I bet if you designed it, someone could 3D print exactly what she needs and bolt a AMPS mount ball to it. The downside is you lose that little aftermarket tray that fits in the grab handle. Pre-2024 you could replace the bolt on the end of the grab handle with a bolt/ball and keep the tray. This is what the wife has in her '25 JLU. Obviously the actual phone mount would have to be different for your wife, but otherwise that setup could work for her as a passenger. I'm guessing as a driver it would be too far right for her, but there are companies that make balls that replace the lower bolt in the A pillar with a ball mount for both early and late JL/JTs that would put the phone on her left..

I've seen an adjustable arm for the standard 1" Ram B ball (I don't think they were made by Ram Mounts), but they seemed pretty clunky and long. There are also flexible arms which might work for you, or again might be too long. Also, I like options, and I've found there are other companies making 1" ball arms in lengths Ram does not. I mounted a tablet in my UTV and I was able to find a 1" ball arm that put it exactly where I wanted it.

I think the issue tends to be that no two disabilities are exactly alike, so a lot of this stuff tends to be one-off. As a southpaw, I certainly understand living in a right hand world. Grumble40+grumble years ago, there was a little general store out in rural PA. You know, the kind that sold everything from groceries to worms and ammo. The owner was left-handed himself, and a corner of the store was dedicated to all the stuff he could find that catered to lefties. Left handed kitchen utensils like can openers, spatulas, soup ladles. Tools like left handed planes, files/rasps, carving knives. Left handed scissors. Anyway, with advances in 3D printing and CNC machining, it seems like it might be a nice side job/hobby for someone with the right mindset and skillsets.

I tried to get someone to add printed levers to the window switches, even drawing up and prototyping a design, but that fell apart.. I think they saw I was serious, and they weren't...............
I believe the window switches could easily be modded with a stick-on piece.

I set on 20mm mounts - I didn't want or need the bulk of anything larger and BulletPoint had everything I needed in that size. They of course, comes along the redesigned dash and this rail. Still, I adapted the balls to work on this rail and used the BulletPoint mount for my phone and the MOPAR accessory for my plow control.
I think something exactly like the WeatherTech cup phone thing where a phone can just drop in and have it work with the arms and ball mount would be perfect. The idea is NOT to make the phone usable while in a mount, but have a handy place to put it while seeing the screen and anything that pops up on it.
Phones are all different sizes and so many things are made for iPhones (which we'll never own) and Samsung - which we don't own except her Flip 4 which is not the size of other phones - the only thing that works perfectly for her is the cup phone holder. She has even said "when we trade, we don't want to forget that"...........

For sure! We actually have an array of radio controller holders as well, we're reworking some of them however and will be releasing some new parts in January.. I immensely appreciate all of your feedback.

Now I hope it snows another foot soon, and it has me thinking of putting my 1977 CB radio in this thing to try out a mic holder
(my parents bought it for me back then when I was driving 45 minutes back and forth to college.. my AMX was probably the last car it was ever in - back in the mid-1980s. Probably doesn't even work any more)

Does the back of the radio have a standard hanger button? It would make it compatible with the following part. This is an Expedition Essentials Mic Clip, that we bundle with our Base/Arm/Holder. If so let me know. I'll get you taken care of.
